Yes, I have seen Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry. Great old car chase movie. Actually, I have seen it dozens of times. ( Worked in a movie theater when it was out. Yes, I am old.)
Don't forget;
Against All Odds ( 911 vrs Vette in traffic)
The French Connection
To Live and Die in L.A. ( great wrong way freeway chase - Pre Ronin )
Freebie And The Bean
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
and the best car wrecks and chases of course are in Mad Max and the Road Warrior.

That scene with the 911 vs the (not Vette) Ferrari on Sunset was pretty nuts. Reminded me of some crazy stuff I used to see. That was around dead man's curve.

Ronin was the first DVD I bought - just for the chase scenes! Bullitt might be the all time classic though. The original Gone in 60 Seconds was better than the remake, IMHO.

Shawn - awesome collection!

What about "The Rock"

What about the Ferrari chasing the Hummer scene on the hilly streets of San Francisco. I personally think that was a pretty damn good car/chasing/driving scene.

my .02 cents

Hum, I've always liked the chase scene in "The Dead Pool" (Dirty Harry 5).... even though one of the cars is remote controlled.

Those are some good movies listed...I would have to add Cobra with Stallone...there aren't a lot of car scenes, but the few there are, they are great. You have got to love his old car running on nitrous...that was the best part of the movie.

If you want to see a couple of movies with great cars, but not many chase scenes, check out 'Hollywood Knights' and 'Dazed and Confused'. Both are on video.

Bullitt is the best of all time, period.

I like the chase scene in Ronin but not much else.

Also we can't forget some 80's TV shows like Miami Vice, Dukes of Hazzard, and the one with the talking Firebird!

I have to go with pimpintypes and gto250, Ronin then Bullit.

DDT-TypeS
The case was what is called a muguffin. It is just an item to drive the story but in the end it is of no importance.

Ronin and I agree about the Matrix reloaded scene (movie sucked but that car scene was awesome)! I also like to mention the transporter has some decent car scenes.

And finally...the fast and the furious!

Bullitt all the way....and lets give credit where it is due. Despite some great Hollywood editing, The great stuntman Bud Ekins did the driving for McQueen in Bullitt.

PS....He also jumped the bike for Steve in the chase scene in the Great Escape.

I also liked just about all the ones you guys mentioned. I didn't see "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" mentioned. If you can find it, has some excellent scenes. Peter Fonda stars. Circa 1973-4 I think. Anyone else remember that movie?

Honorable mention to "Live and Let Die" Cars and Boats!

Dirty Mary Crazy Larry was the first one that came to mind when I saw this. I can't believe 2 of you beat me to it! Guess I'm not the only old fart on this forum. THere was another movie that was called "Stingray" that had some really awesome chase scenes.http://www.sd455.com/moviestingray.htm

I think you're talking about the Bourne Identity...not Mark Wahlbergh but that other chump....oh yeah, Matt Damon. That one was alright. I still say Ronin....Matrix Reloaded was alright, but still say Ronin. I gotta see Bullitt though, never saw it yet.

Ronin is the best; the guy that played 'Larry' (Skip Sudduth) did 90% of the driving for his character (ref. Audi S8). FYI: My 12 y/o son met him on the set of Third Watch here in NYC and got me his autograph. Really nice guy and BIGTIME auto enthusiast!!

My other favs:
Smokey and the Bandit (the original only)
Bullit
The French Connection
To Live and Die in LA

Though I KNOW I may get flamed for this, I thought '2 Fast 2 Furious' was a ton better than the original one. Too bad Universal Pictures couldnt unload Paul Walker; but Tyrese did a MUCH better job of holding the movie together than I EVER thought he would.

Peace
