Alignment and Eibachs pro-kit?

I got the Eibach pro-kit last night. Next step is install. Now the question becomes, do I need alignment together with the install or should I drive around first for a bit and then do the alingment. Also, how much should an install cost, not at a dealer?

I'd say wait a week and then do the alignment to give the springs time to settle in.

Most people drive it for a couple of days and see how the alighnment is. If it is bad they get it alligned!

For what its worth when I had mine done Jens did the alignment on the spot. I was puzzled as to why he thought doing the alignment at the same time would be alright. So I asked him. He said that the springs (maybe he was refering only to the Comptechs?) really don't settle much at all. Sounded fine to me since it came from him. Now its been 9 months and last month, after two rotations, he said the alignment is still the same since the spring install. The left rear rubber is about .1 off. His comment, and I quote, "life is good."

I figured since the alignment will be off anyways immediately upon install, why not save some tire wear and get it done right away. My tires are wearing so evenly that it's slightly pissed me off since I now want to change the rubber anyways. But then again the stock tires are very quiet and paid for. I like that. =)

Btw at my dealership the spring install with the alignment came to $275. With the sways, the total was about $450. Included was a loaner, knowledgable people, and all the coffee I could handle

Alot? Perhaps? But since it was at PAA, I think I got a guarenteed worry free bargain.

Good Luck
Rob

I also had a couple questions for Jens before I got my springs and he told me that the springs, specifically Comptech's, do settle a bit (approximately a quarter inch after about a month), but that you should have an alignment done right away since the settling is minimal and the toe is off as soon as the springs go on.

Well, I hear different things. I know for a fact alingment needs to be done. However, someone told that springs take about 5k to settle so alignment should be done right away. I think I cant go wrong if I do it right away.

I waited 2+ months, but I would recommend waiting atleast 2 weeks.

Virtually everyone agrees that there will be some settling of the springs. Therefore an alignment today will be out of alignment in 1-2 months. (* Note: I am not aware of anyone that has installed Eibach springs that have gotten their car back to factory alignment specs without the additional purchase of a camber kit).

So if I were you I would wait 1+ month(s) and then get an alignment. What’s the worst thing that will happen, you might add 20% more wear on your tires for a month or so.

If you get an alignment today you may cause even more wear on your tires because you probably won't get another alignment for 6 months or so, and during that time your springs will settle and effect your alignment.

The speed shop I got the springs from told me to get one immediatelyk, as the Pro-Kit's don't settle much....then again they are the same ones that took 5 mos. to get them in.

I'm waiting for mine to settle. Amazingly the
camber isn't so bad. I dropped my prelude 1.75" and always had negative camber problems.
