Alarm/Starter: Compustar vs. Viper vs. Clifford

Hi,

I have been looking through the old threads over at A-TL about alarms and have come up with these three companies up top. I'm basically looking for a good solid alarm system w/ remote start. I like the idea of a 2-way LCD remote, but its not totally nessesary. I'm interested in shock sensors and proximity sensors. I also want to be able to use one FOB remote and be able to pop trunk open and remote start car w/o fuss that some alarms have.

My choices from each company are as follows:

Compustar 2WSS-AS

Clifford G5 Series (Solaris 5 or Avantguard 5, advanced model)
Clifford Matrix series (RSX 3.5 LCD or RS 2.1 reg)

Viper 791XV (lcd) or 560XV (non-lcd)

I'm clear on what the Compustar offers, but the Directed Electronics branding confuses me.

Are there are really differences between the Clifford & Viper brands?
Why are Anti-Carjacking not offered on some of the alarm/starter combos?
What are the differences between the Solaris and Advantguard?

I appreciate any help I can get on this. Average install prices would also be helpful. I'm in Montgomery County, MD if that helps.

I can help you on the compustar as I used to have one on my 95 accord.

Expect to pay around $600-700 including install. I was very pleased with the quality of mine. It worked great in -50 below weather in alaska and just as good in 120 degree weather in arizona.

The range was incredible (1+ mile in line of sight and 1/2 mile in urban areas).

I dunno anything about the other alarms though... Good luck!
