Airbox Tabs

Added a K&N drop-in filter the other day, and noticed both the slots attached to the bottom of the air box were broken off (most likely the dealers fault since I've never changed the air filter myself until a couple days ago ). Normally the tabs slide into the slots and hold the top of the air box down along with the two screws on the other side. Anyway, I can hear a low resonance comming from the airbox, when I push down, the resonance disappears, and when I pull up slightly on the top of the box the resonance increases. Now I'm wondering if there could be any adverse affects because one side of the air box is not tightly secured? I tried using some zip ties to clamp the tabs down, but there isn't anything for them to hold on to.

This same thing has happened to me. I am pretty sure the dealer did it also.

That sucks. Take it back and have them replace it. And then take it out, sell it and get an Icebox.

Yeah, it's kinda tricky to remove/replace the airbox cover because of the tabs, but you would think that a dealership tech would know better.

You might try posting a WTB ad in the black market as sometime the stock airboxes become available when someone upgrades to the CT icebox.

I had to play around with my cover to make sure I got the tabs in the slots correctly when I put my K&N in, but even then it look longer to find my tools then to do it right... It's funny, but the directions in the owners manual are better then the ones in the Helms (what the techs use).

I've heard that dealerships are having a tough time finding and retaining decent techs, and some of the horror stories I've read here about the lack of dealership workmanship leads me to believe this is true...

Who are the dealerships hiring ?? Voc school dropouts ?? That's why most members here will recomend doing your own maintenance, and only going to the dealer when you absolutely have too...
