Hi, does anyone know what's compatible with a 01 CL? I did some searching on eBay and Autotrader to see what would fit, it looks like the 02 CL and the 99-01 TL airbags are 100% identical with the 01 CL, so it should be plug and play, right? The 03 CL and the 02-03 TL looks like it would fit just fine, the outer shape of the driver's side looks the same to me, just the inner design is different, I spent a lot of time examining the photos and I couldn't find a difference on the outline. If I am right about the shape, would it be plug and play as well? Or does it have a different wiring harness?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

 

03's are dual stage, You can't use them. Your 01 is a single stage.

 

What about modding it? I know someone who's an expert at circuitry, is it do-able? And what about the wiring harness, is it different?

the 02's are split......single stage driver side and dual stage passenger side

if you know and trust the expert then it is def. doable. i hardwired a single stage s2000 bag to my dual stage 03 cl-s. you will need to take resistance reading and put the proper resistor in place.

 

What does stage 1 do and what does stage 2 do?Does stage 1 of a dual stage airbag equal that of a single stage airbag?

 

Why don't you just get the airbag from an 01 CLS? I've seen sets on Ebay recently.
Single stage means the airbag will only go off in a set impact setting.
Dual stage means the airbag has 2 settings to deploy. A low speed crash & a high speed crash.
