Air conditioner pressures and recharging

Hi, I just bought a small can recharging system (with pressure gage) as my air has cooled in my '02 CL. However, when charging, pressure gage shows high according to the gage (maybe 40-50 psi??). I want to keep adding but probably should not. Air temp has improved slightly with the small charge I added.

Questions:

1. What is the low pressure side safe value? Is it dangerous to add more?
2. What else would cause air to cool if there is obviously no leak?

Thanks.

Dan

it's likely over charged. I don't have the specs now. I can post them later tonight if someone doesn't do it. Since this has come up often recently I'll get it posted in the FAQ in an AC section.

Thanks. This is weird because I don't understand why there would be a loss of cooling with a fully charged system. Let me know please...

Sorry for the delay, I've been sick...

I don't see much on the pressures in the manual. Says it could be 28-400PSi depending on conditions. From my AC work, a good low side pressure is around 40PSI when temps are at 80.

There's a climate control self test you can try. This will display any climate control DTC's.

Turn ignition switch to on
Press & hold the auto & off buttons on the dash for 1 minute
If there's a DTC it will light up on the temp display from A-N
Turn ignition off to cancel

The recommended AC charge is 21.2 oz - 22.9 oz

I will try that. The pressure gage on the can shows a green (safe) range around 20-30 psi, then a yellow (caution) range around 40-50 psi. Finally a very long Red band (Danger) that goes I'm sure up to well over 100 psig.

I'm in the yellow to red right now and will keep you posted on the test. Thanks again.

Looks light the test showed nothing....BUT ... I watched a video on how to recharge, and I BELIEVE that the system pressure was stated to be measured when compressor is NOT cycling. (I saw the 50-60 psi pressure when it cycled on and much lower when off). Can someone confirm this?
