Ah, what a few degrees can do!
Well, once again it's that time of year.
This evening, 57 degrees, no humidity.
I couldn't believe how much stronger my car pulled than it had all summer prior!
There is no doubt that our cars are extra-dogs in hot, humid weather. I never remember any of my cars feeling so different during the different seasons.
If it doesn't rain this Friday I intend to hit the track and see just how this correlates at the track.

me too... Tomorrow another trip to Montreal...2 trips in 2 weeks... damn it's now 850 miles since las week trip.. by next week I will add another 800 miles.
I am shooting to drive back Friday Night... so I can atttend NED Imports wars on Saturday.. my CLS is so dirty as if I raced in Paris-Dakkar rally or the 1000 mile islands rally!
I will try to do an overnight wash and detailing on friday night, If I can't, I do not care, I need just to run my CLS at the drags...
See you there boys!

Ah, another Kumho update.....
Well, with 25000 miles on them these friggin cheap ass tires are holding up incredibly well!!! They still have a good bit of tread left on them (I'd say around half if you can believe that) but when I rotated them last week it looks like they are starting to wear just a little bit in the insides, likely due to the combination of springs and oversized tires.
I did have an alignment done when these tires went on and it was dead on so that's not the problem. I think one wheele was just a hint out of spec when all was said and done.
Honestly, these have worn so well that I am definately considering the new Kumho MX tires when I need new ones. Those babies look very agressive for a reasonable price. Hopefully at that time they might just come with new 18" wheels too!

JROCK--I have to give the track a call because I heard rumors that there was no more test and tune on Fridays.
Lemm see what I can find out. I have to get up there at least one more time this year. If not maybe Capitol or MIR.

This should give you an idea what kind of difference temperature makes on a J block engine.
After getting my AEM SRI (only mod at the time) my best time during the summer at Houston Raceway was a 16.3 with temp's in the 90's and usual Houston humidity. (Stock my car ran a 16.21 in the spring with high 70's to low 80's and mild humidity).
During the fall I went back to the track with just my AEM SRI again with temps in the high 50's to low 60's. Without any weight reduction (I have a sub box, custom built amp rack and spare tire) my first time was a 15.8. Let the car cool off another 30 minutes, ran a 15.7... let the car cool off another 30 minutes ran a 15.62. Let the car cool off another 30 minutes and removed my sub box and spare tire. (The Amp rack is bolted to the rear deck) BAM! 15.52!!!
Air temperature and humidity accounted for a difference in .8 SECONDS!!!
In the summer my times went UP after each run because the intake manifold got progressively hotter after each run and the engine couldn't cool down enough because of the ambient air temperatures.

id have to say that ive never owned a car that was SOOOOO sensitive to the temperature and weather conditions...i mean every car prefers colder air temps but the CL-S just LOVES the cold and is a total DOG in awful heat/humidity. my blazer was fine in the heat, my camaro was fine in the heat, my buicks were fine in the heat..i wonder why it has such a huge effect on the acura?

I've also only been driving a stick since July so I'd rather not miss shift at the track and blow up my engine just yet.
S/C install is on hold until my stock transmission craps out thanks to Honda extending the warranty to 100k miles.

Geez, this morning my 6-Speed finally saw the lowest temps it had ever seen. 66 degrees F so far and it also felt good. I am certainly looking forward to so drives into the office with it in the 40's...
But I have to disagree with some her. This car is really no more susceptible to the heat than others. It may be that with a more performance oriented car people notice the changes more so. My old Typhoon felt like it made 60 HP difference between the winter and the summer and that number might not be far off.

Interesting note though: With the addition of the supercharger to the truck, the effects of altitude and temperature are almost eliminated! Normally (on a cool day) the power from my roots blower is linear from idle to when the blower kicks in. On a hot day, you can feel that the engine is a dog until the boost happens, and then there is a step in HP.
Funny story about the truck: Up in the Rocky Mountains for vacation. The truck weighs 5000 lbs without a load (just got back from camping, so the box is full of shit). I pull out to pass somebody (there is a pimped out Mustang -- 99+ Cobra) behind me. I walk away from him, and he immediately accelerates too. So he pulls out beside me doing 60, and cranks on it. For the fun of it, I do the same (the blower gives my old Chevy 380HP under the hood, 300HP to the ground). Well, he slowly creaps away (which kind of messes with his ego a bit). I slow up because there is a car in my lane, he keeps going, and holds it at about 80 MPH. And then he passes a ghost car. Tee hee.... I smiled as I passed him (since there were 2 big cops getting out of the ghost car). Spanked twice in one day.... I laughed....
