Aftermarket Alarm System... What do you have?
I'm looking into getting a new alarm for the car, specifically the Viper 690 Responder for $450 installed.
Any comments on your alarms system?
Thanks!

I went through TWO Viper 790 remotes, they kept breaking. I never dropped them, never abused them. Buttons kept failing, display kept crapping out, and eventually, wouldn't transmit (got locked out of my car, fresh new battery).
So I downgraded to the Viper 550 remote start, and it works pretty well. Too bady my Viper 790 wasn't more reliable. I had the 790 for about 9 months, and did not want to dish out $100+ a year in remotes-
I got the shock sensor, glass break, battery back up, hood pin, and trunk relay, set my remote start for 15 minutes, and remote start parking lights to constant. It works great!

Viper 790vx with window roll up and down. I agree the current remote is bulky and ugly. I wanna get this remote or Clifford's carbon fiber remote instead.
Here's hte pic from my friend's 791vx remote:

I used to have a compustar alarm in my old accord and it was top notch!
I highly reccomend them and their current range is around 1.5 miles in the clear and less in urban areas.
The awsome thing about them is they warn you when someone messes with your car. People would mess with my car and I would jump over the patio wall with a golf club and ask them, "can I help you?"
They would just be like
Expect to pay over $500 with all the sensors. Find a dealer certified installer near you.

I shave my change purse
^My viper 790xv does the same thing. Whenever the alarm is tripped or gives someone a warning, my transmitter beeps.
range is pretty good as well. Rated at about 1500ft 2000ft I believe.
On a side note, I believe you can program the 791xv remote to work with the 790xv correct? If so I definitly am going to purchase one. I hate the 790 remote.

I found this old post so I'll use this.
I just had a Viper 690xv installed, similar to the 791xv but without the remote start ( not recommended for the 6mt ) with all the necessary sensors and programable features. I thought about the tracking system, suppose to be better than Lojack, but I more concerned about it being vandalized than stolen and if it's stolen it will probably be stripped before I blink. I wanted something different than the standard 6 tone alarm you hear all the time so they mixed the siren wires to vary the tone and I added a pair of air horns to really break the silence
I tested the motion sensors around motorcycles and riced piped Honda neighbors so the false signals should be few.
I hope I never need it to go off

back from the dead:
well neways,
i have the 790xv too
i usually don't like telling what kinda alarm i have on public forums, but since no one knows me, or even what kinda car i drive, i think i'm safe.
the 790 is nice. i paid 150 installed, cause i bought it online, and did it myself, like a year ago. remote is huge. i'm always pushing buttons on accident. but besides that, no complaints yet. and after people warned me that viper sucks. but i heard any DEI product today should be pretty good, and almost the same as any other.

I used to be a viper dealer and i had some bad experiences with the 690's 691's 790's and 791's
Remotes would drop program and not re-program, brain would not program either. Lose response. You do get locked out.
Unit only comes with one remote. no backups. The display and remote itself i find kinda ugly.
The unit does not do remote start for manual transmission. unles you buy another add on module.
No built in timers for diesel or auxilaries.
I'd rather use a compustar.
