AEM pulley

I am curious about this product...what kind of gains can I anticipate and what about the warranty issue? Thanks for any help!

If you have the extra money, get the Unorthodox Racing ones... More expensive because you get The Street Crank Pulley, 6-Rib Alternator, & 4-Rib Power Steering.
The AEM only has 2.

AFitchTLS, can you explain the 6-rib, 4-rib thing? What about warranty...will this void my Acura warranty? And what about power gains? What is the advantage of switching out the pulley? Thank you!

Actually i just got my AEM pulleys and installing next week. I was told to go with them over the unorthodox because the crank pulley (while having the biggest gain) is said that it may cause some problems. I went with the AEM which is supposed to produce 2-3 hp gain and if u really want the crank pulley you can order it later. Since the AEM package is the power steering and alternator pulley. So far havent heard any problems with the pulleys UNLESS you have a audio system in your car. Some have had problems with the alternator and battery and others havent. Every little bit helps in hp and they look really cool. ALSO i got mine from MODACAR and they are on sale for $99 which i thought was not to bad. Hope that helps a little.

Realize that you're achieving these gains by taking power away from turning the power steering pump and the alternator...which is fine for the latter if you don't run any electronics that suck noticeable power...and ok for the former if you don't mind the wheel turning slightly harder. IMO I wouldn't get em.

Matt and Austin...thank you very much for the replies...it was exactly what I was looking for. Basically I probably won't do it because I want to leave open the option of doing a pimp audio install like how you have Austin. Thank you all!

Does anybody know what the gains of the Unorthodox pullies would be??

What type of gains are you getting for taking on the additional risks the cause??

I want to say it's like 3 HP at the wheels or something? You may be interested in what I have to say to peiqinglong below...

Tell you what though. There are a lot of rotating parts on our cars that could stand to be lighter...so I'll be finding a manufacturer toward the middle/end of the summer who can manufacture very high quality pulleys that aren't any smaller and a lot lighter. The less rotational mass will mean less of a loss to rotational KE, which will mean slightly better gains. Also it will lighten the car slightly (but these are pulleys...so not much). It's part of my big scheme of custom manufactured lighter replacement pieces...of which I'll do a groupbuy of after I do the groupbuy on interior blue LED lighting, gauges and gauge needles, etc...and after I finish the trim/sills groupbuy .

Oh and the rib thing...if you look at the pulleys they have grooves in them, which grip the belts (which have corresponding grooves on the inside of them). Since the belts have 6 grooves...you can get away with 2,4,6 grooves on the pulley (to stay symmetrical). The best would be 6 grooves for the most grip.

i've spoken to Unorthodox Racing. their crank pulley cannot be combined w/ the AEM set. It would cause too much underdrive.
the difference b/w the 2 sets is an extra 1HP from the Unorthodox.
hope this helps.
