From AEM to icebox....

I plan on switching out my Aem for the Icebox tomorrow and have a few questions for the people that have done this. Removal and mounting of the actual unit should be easy but some of the hoses confuse me. Will I be able to use the two hoses from the AEM or will I have to replace those with the ones provided with the icebox. Also the smaller hose provided does not fit on the unit. Can anyone give any tips/pics for proper connection of the hoses? Any other tips in general? Also will it be necessary to bleed the coolant system?

Thanks, J.T.

When my AEM was installed, they didn't mention they had to bleed the system. Why are you switching, don't you like the MAD VTEC roar!

I sure do.....But sometimes sleeper mode is better. If I don't like it i'll just sell it.

The difference in gains isn't really enough to justify the additional cost not to mention doing another installation. If I didn't have an intake I'd probably go Icebox... but to switch out a CAI for one doesn't make much sense.

I actually did this a few weeks ago. switched the AEM for the icebox. I used the original hoses and everything that came with the AEM. I didnt bleed the coolant system because since I already replaced the coolant hose with the AEM, I never had to touch it. It was already run.

Juniorbean,
Your right the gains aren't enough to make the switch. Honestly the AEM and Icebox feels exactly the same as far as gains go. I made the switch for a quieter intake, no hiss on cold startup, and because I had a problem with the AEM filter rubbing the crap out of the inside of my bumper.

the swap over is pretty straight forward. i think i used the hoses from the aem that were already in place.

the performance gains probably aren't significant, but i'd say better performance leans toward the icebox. i really do miss the vtec sound of the aem though.

but it was an easy choice for me, seeing that i had just broken my 2nd aem pipe at the mounting bracket.

I just finished with the install and it went pretty good.....Except for the fact that the plastic piece snapped while I was trying to trim it. What did everyone use to trim the plastic piece? I took it out for a test drive and it does feel a little stronger/smother. It is also much quieter than the aem but still has a nice sound to it. I'll drive around with it for a few days and go to the track this week before I make my final decision to keep it.

J.T., Let me know if you want to sell your AEM. I've got a CL-S 6MT and I've been looking for a used AEM. I'd really like to buy a V2 but since their not out yet, a use AEM might do the trick.

Dremel rotory tool... had a little saw blade on it, cut on the outside of the line, then attached the sanding disc and made it perfect.

For those of you who think the icebox is a tad bit quiet .. I've heard that swapping the foam filter for the K&N replacement brings back a little of the AEM VTEC growl .. I'm planning on doing this in a few months when it would be time to clean the foam filter.

Do you really have to remove the front bumper on this install? I hate removing those types of body parts if I don't have to ...
