AEM CAI vs. Comptech Icebox

Just want to get some votes and opinions... I just don't know what to choose. Many say the like the stock look, many say they prefer the AEM sound.

I also want reliability to be considered.

you can always take out the resonator to make it sound more AEM!

i try to keep everything as close to stock sounding and looking as i can, so i went with the Icebox. The icebox + headers has a nice sound, not as loud as the AEM, but still sounds pretty good at WOT.

But you can't get both sound and power like you can with the Icebox. Just ask Mantis, he's heard my Icebox in track mode. It's way meaner than the AEM.

I have an AEM, but I think I would rather have an Icebox.

Reasons:
1. Easier to clean filter.
2. No worries about hydro-lock.
3. Sound difference doesn't matter to me.
4. I know they aren't that much, but the gains are a tad better.

Go with the Icebox. Sounds a tad meaner then stock but not as loud as the AEM.

Plus you get those extra horses.

Exact reasons why I opted for the CT Icebox.

LOL, I remember one day, I was getting on it through the gears to get around slower traffic, and this old guy in a pick-up truck pulled along side me at the next stop. I don't recall cutting him off or anything. I guess he must have been impressed with the sound as I pasted by or something. Anyway, He shouts over and says, 'Son, what size V8 you got in that thing'. I was like 'WTF' . I guess the sound reminded him of a V8.

I wish.

Icebox

1. I want to maintain as much of the stock look as possible (hope to one day have a full sleeper )

2. NO risk of hydrolock

I also dropped my time from 14.65 to 14.58 with the set up. Almost a full tenth and that could drop you even more with your set up.

Insteads of paying over $200 for a stock look-a-like, you can simply replace it into K & N replacement kit. It's only one third of the cost. :P

word! I think the icebox with headers sounds aggressive enough and the performance is there also.

The gains from a k&n drop in are very minimal :ghey:

if you can remember, scooter and lou raced a few times a while back after lou got the icebox (scooter had the xephyr cai) and scooter kicked lou's ass every time.

Ok, I wanted to back it up at the next track race, but it's an easy and cheap mod for the most part. I'm actually checking in to a source that might be able to make one of the parts for us . . . if it's not too much $$.

Let me find the parts I used to do this and I'll put a message describing it better. Also, I'll need to get a digital camera as a picture is worth a thousand words. Gimme a week or so and I'll post in a separate thread.

From what my dad told me (he's an old school racer) , you can actually pack the Icebox with dry ice for the coldest possible air being sucked into the intake. The colder the air, the better the gains.

I have yet to try it though.

This was one of the reasons I got the Icebox over any other intkae.

You can lay a bag of ice on top of the plenum while waiting to run as well.

I've also look at how to make a cool-can coil work. The dry ice would be easier.

If you want to hear what an Icebox sounds like without the resonator.......In the highest voice you can muster yell HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nice and loud. It won't change with RPMs and it will be there at idle. I bought an Icebox that was missing the resonator and thought it would just be louder. It makes a really funky noise all the time though. Not cool sounding at all. I made my own resonator to make it go away.
