AEM CAI - Sound OK?
I'm contemplating getting an AEM CAI put it. Couple of questions for you. What EXACTLY does it sound like. Does is sound like "rice"? Do you notice a difference in performance? If so, what range do you feel the boost (lower, mid, higher)? I already like the growl my engine makes when I'm pushing it. Does it sound like that but louder? I WOULD like a little more horses, and it seems that a CAI is the easiest and cheapest way to do it. Help please.

You don't need theby-pass unless you get a lot of rain... otherwise you should be OK. If you get a lot of rain, it's a $40 insurance policy on your $6k+ engine, either way the chance of hydrolocking your engine is very slim.... but it's really up to you.
As for the sound, it does not sound like rice.... it's not really that loud. I guess that's subjective.. but I was actually hoping it was a little louder then it is (at VTEC range only, like my short-ram intake was for my CL). You'll only really notice it at 4500rpm and up... when you're just cruising the car sounds stock.
You will notice a little extra oomph in your car... but not too much as the intake generally adds 6-8hp mainly in the mid and high range.

Get the CAI and don't look back. The sound is a nice growl at 4000rpm and greater. I unlike JB, didn't want the thing to make a lot of noise. And it really doesn't...
I opted for the bypass. I just felt better knowing I had it. And the way it rained here this morning, I didn't feel at all uneasy about driving though the wet streets.
And it makes a great father/son project!

I just installed the AEM 2 weeks ago. At WOT it sounds awesome. IMO the growl is louder and deeper. It seems like the car pulls better but that could be the illusion of the sound. There is no difference in sound at idle and normal accelration. However, I have noticed an increase in my city mpg by about 1.0-2 mpg. That is strictly stop and go with no expressway or highway driving. I was getting 18-19.5, and I am now getting a consistent 20.5 mpg.
