AEM CAI issues
AEM CAI issues
I had a couple of issues that I thought I'd share:
1)After installing the front left clip (when you're at the front of the car facing the rear of the car) I noticed that the clip punctured my filter.
I called AEM and have had the filter replaced. Go to Xephyr’s installation page and look at the 5th pic down to see which clip I’m referring to.
2)The car didn't feel right after installing the CAI. I added a couple of washers to the rubber brace (above the wheel well) to raise the filter off of the splash guard and performance improved.
My .02. YMMV.
Other than these 2 issues I've been very happy w/the cai.

Hmmmm.... While I don't doubt your story, when I talked to Tim about this issue, he said that there was some "confusion" in the install instructions etc.
I was going to wait to get the new unit, but was told that the "washers" were not needed for the install. I talked to Arnold about this as well.
Can you amplify on this?

I had the same problem and I think it is due to the by pass valve. Not sure but I really do not think the amount cut is big enough. The CAI is a little longer now.
All I did was took the fender clip and cut the top of it off and filed it down so there is no sharp end.
I think I put another 2 or 3 washers in the brace also.

I had brought up the issue regarding the filter sitting on the splash guard to AEM. They said that it wasn't that big of a deal. I have posted before regarding my concerns that this restricted air flow. I guess I will try the washer technique also.
I had that problem too. I had to cut and extra inch or two including an 2 inches already for the by-pass to be installed.

No confusion. The instructions should have specifically stated NOT to insert the clip.
After I talked to AEM they were supposed to redesign the cai, but I don't know what's happening on that front. Hopefully they'll redesign it so that the filter doesn't sit so close to the splash guard.
