AEM CAI and Bypass

I was curious...what is the entire purpose the bypass and do you need to install it with the CAI? Thank you in advance for any help that anyone may be able to offer!

Damn.. I can't tell you to do a search b/c it's temporarily disabled!!

The purpose of a by-pass on a CAI is to prevent water from entering your engine. To be honest with you, the odds of you sucking up enough water to hydrolock your engine, are slim to none, but a by-pass makes it closer to none.

You do not need to install it on a CAI... it's your choice. If you live in a rainy or "four season" area, you may want to do it for piece of mind, but it's not necessary regardless of where you live. It's more of a piece of mind thing. A $45 piece which protects your $6k+ engine, regardless of how low the chance of hydrolocking is.... it's not a bad idea....

edit - Check out this link from SCC. Pretty interesting reading and should explain a lot.... http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/ar...h01_0401.shtml

i have a CAI on my car without a bypass...ive driven it once in a bad rainstorm...no puddles or anything, just heavy raining...anyhow, when i got home, i popped the hood and reached down to touch the filter...IT WAS REALLY WET!!! this was a few weeks ago...and my car is fine, so that must mean that the filter can take on some water without letting it go into the engine...it kind of makes me nervous though...i mean the filter wasnt dripping wet, but it was definetely moist all over
