Anyone really know what kind of performance a new CAI intake will have? And is a bypass valve really needed? I live in the mountains where it snows everyday in the winter.

What do you mean new CAI? A CAI is a CAI...it's just aluminum tube...old or new...it just a big tube. Performance gains should be around 8-10hp to the wheels I believe. Some people say hardly noticeable, but I beg to differ...I can feel that "oooph" with my car now. Plus at the very least..."you car sounds fast" (quote courtesy of Red Rider ) As far as the bypass valve...I would say get it if your area has a lot of rain and puddles...snow is an iffy...but probably better safe than sorry. Although the bypass valve will cost you like 1 or 2 hp at most. It's a trade off, safety of mind or every ounce of power. Don't ask which CAI is better either because everyone will tell you none of them are. Injen or AEM...it's the same damn thing...but if your talking about Comptech's Icebox...that's something else

Icebox

Okay I think I missed the Icebox information. Is this thing available for a 2003 CL-S AT? Where's the best price?
I was also wondering about maintenance on the CAI -do you have to tear the thing apart to replace/clean the cone?

The Ice Box is what Comptech has underdevelopment for our cars right now. Basically it operates like the stock air box and CAI put together. It looks stock looking at it...but once you get down to the piping...it's bigger and no resonator box. Filter is located where the stock air box filter is so ease of cleaning and changing filters as opposed to CAIs. The Ice Box for the Type S is currently delayed due to an 03 fitment issue with the new headlights. Here is a rough idea how the IB will look like http://solar.innercite.com/comptech/intake1.html. As far as maintence of a CAI...some people have devised various methods to cleaning their filter...some remove everything, others open the wheel well just enough to stick their hands in...me, I took out the garnish piece and pray I don't have to replace the filter until the IB comes out.
