AEM Bypass valve is broke....WTF! Would the Ice Box be better?

I took a look at the bypass valve....3 of the 5 plastic connectors are cracked on the top half. Should I buy a new bypass valve........or should I get Ice Box?

When that happened to me, I just got a 3" silicone coupler and completely got rid of the bypass. You really have to drive your car into Lake Michigan to hydrolock the motor.

I don't...

Just run over to Lowes/Home Depot/Menards and tell them you are looking for a 3" silicone hose/coupler. Cost you 5 bucks max for the length you need.

It's basically the same thing that connects the CAI to the throttle bodyl; the black coupler. Use something like that.

Ya sure Lou... I just found a scratch on one of my SSRs and the idle is 1 RPM to high. I'm finished with it... Kaput. Done. Nauseous. Fed up. Time for the G35C with blower

yeah nickey is kinda emotional

I think you should buy a better bypass valve instead of that AEM POS.

I think you would need 1,000+ HP to make this one fragment into little peices

I was a big believer in the Bypass valve, but I’ve been running without one for the last few months.
The car just sounds so much better without it installed.
It adds a couple extra decibels to the BANSHEE SCREAM of my Xephyr CAI.

I am slightly paranoid of water, but so far---so good.

I was always worried about hydrolock also. But then i realized that the whole filter must be submerged for that to happen. I find that possibility very slim as I don't really see any one foot deep puddles on the road.

I'm actually surprised that the one with the "X" CAI became unusable. It was just a circle of foam with hose clamps on each end. Seemed simple enough. That other one in a picture from AK_MOBBER above would seem to defeat the filter at the end anyway. It came with the CAI and so I usd it. It didn't really seem necessary.

I wouldn’t say it became “unusable”.
I was just worried that after being installed on TWO different cars over a 4-year time period that it was time to be replaced.
The outer foam was becoming hard, dry and brittle.
I didn’t think 40 dollars was worth ingesting broken parts into the engine.

First I bought one of those RTEC inline filters similar to the one posted above by AK_MOBBER.
It was only on the car for 2-days.
It had a horrible “howling” noise all the time and was sucking in too much air because of the open filter element.
I took it off and ordered a new AEM and the rubber piece was just installed as a temporary fix until it came in.
I like the sound so much I haven’t replaced it even though there’s a brand new AEM bypass sitting in my garage right now.

Has anyone had anything ingested into the motor because of a bypass valve?

I dont get it the Comptech Icebox gives same HP and more torque...it stills have a nice sound to it...its of quality material...great resale value.....can adapt a K&N filter and is comparably inexpensive

why put your engine at risk, why go through this headache, ????

my questions can go on and on...and the only answer I would get is I love the sound

and yes Nicky...Rondog sucked in the rubber piece that holds the aem bypass valve in place and he pulled over and it was sitting inside the engine....pulled it out with needlenose

is it really worth it ???

you'd have to hit serious water to get hydrolock.

He's a bit of a DQ.

I took off my bypass valve too. Sounds better, performs better. I have had no problems. Been over a year. And it was a swamp out today, flash floods.

There is some pipe joiners at home depot that come close to fitting, You need to mod them a bit.

Just buy this...

I searched at Home Depot & Lowes and came up empty as well.
I got it at a local “Speed Shop” that sells/installs custom intakes, wheels & such.
They only charged me like 3-bucks because it was just a leftover piece they had sitting in the shop.

If you do a google search for “AEM connector hose” you will find a ton of mail order places.

Just my opinion, but I certainly wouldn’t want to be driving around with something that was held on by SUPER-GLUE.
It’s one thing if a piece of molding falls off, but if that sucker fails it’s gonna get sucked into your engine and go BOOM.

The IceBox looks & sounds too much like stock for me.
And it only gives 2-3 extra horsepower over other CAI’s.
Not to mention I believe it costs like 300- bucks.

No thanks.

yea but 2-3 HP is what

comptech exhaust gives you = $700

comptech b-pipe = $450

also it gives about 7 lbs of more torque at lower RPMs than the AEM..I wont get into it cause I believe the Icebox is the best HP for the $$ on the CL-S...realistically it gives you torque where you need it most at low RPms especially in a v6

Yea, and notice I don’t have EITHER of those mods on my car.
Besides Headers, there are no other exhaust mods that do much for this car.
