adjust speedo???

Is there anyway to adjust the speedo for tire height on the CLS. I can't understand the cl comes with 205/60/16s which are already a touch bigger than the 215/50/17s, my car is already off about 2-3 mph at 70 (slow side)...and i found a great deal on rims with 225/45/17s which are even a touch smaller. On my fords it was simply a gear, the camaro needs a programmer, is ther anything for the acura?

thanks

Joe

This is a very irratating aspect of modern cars. The answer is no. The calibration is locked up inside the car's computer code. Car makers are concerned about being sued if you get caught for speeding (or get into an accident) and the speedo told you that you were within legal limits.

I thought speedos can be adjusted, but you need to go to a special speedo shop for this I thought that's what the folks who prop up their 4x4s do.

I wouldn't worry about the speedo difference on 225/45-17 tires. It's not going to be that far off to warrant the hassle of adjustment.

Actually it is my understanding that there is a fine tuning possibility on all of our cars equipped with electric speedos. However the procedure was never published .There are numerous trim pots on the printed circuit board o the instrument panel one of them controls the motor drive for the speedo needle.I have no idea how it is done on a CL.It was published for the RL a long time ago when it became apparent that the speedos were incorrectly adjusted .It involved driving the car on a lift at a specific engine speed i a specific gear and then turning a trim pot o the back of the IP panel to correct the speedo .But as someone else noted 2-3 MPH off is nothing i would worry about .Jens

It would have to be done through the computer. But, since there is no programmer for ours, I think you might be out of luck.

My 1998 Integra GS-R's speedo was fast by 9% .. meaning when it read 80mpg, I was actually doing 72-73. After many complaints with Acura .. I was informed that Acura had removed all of the 'known' adjustments for their speedos and that a 10% tollerace is acceptable as far as American Honda was concerned. They documented this all in the service write-ups - even gave me a 10mph increment grid with reading versus actual based on the service computer they connected to the car's systems while they were driving it. Acura's district rep told me that there was nothing they would do for me (other than give me the grid), nor was their any means to adjust the current speedo. He also told me that if they put in a new speedo ... that one will be off as well (maybe better .. maybe worse) .. but Acura purposely sets the speedos to read 'slow' due to legal liability reasons (speeding). I think it is all a bunch of crap myself .. but I battled with them for 4 months over this issue .. because I hated not knowing how fast I was going.

Interesting gadget I have no idea if it would work ,but I imagine the idea is yes since the S2000 is electrically more or less the same as the other Honda/Acura cars .A call to the maker would be in order .I'd look up the schematics for an S2000 but i have no access to them through our computer data base .Jens

This is a problem I've been trying to find a solution too also. The yellow box seems like a great one. Anyone with any experience?

i had a newer jeep 97 and put larger tires on it than it came with stock, from 30in to 35in and to get my speedo back to the correct setting i had to get a new speedo gear with more teeth that was like 12 dollars and plugged right into my transfer case, like a 2 min install. obviously our cars dont have a transfer case but is there something similar to a speedo gear like that on non 4x4s?
