Add me to the tranny list

at 53xxxKM my tranny is dead. It was dying at around 50 ish but i kept driving on it until it got really bad. Took it to the dealer and test drove with a mechanic and he confirmed my tranny is fukked.

However i did notice that the problem is not so visible when im on SS mode. When the mech was driving he used D5 and holy shit the thing was slipping. Im fortunate that none of the "horror stories" happened to me.

MY dealer is great!! (ACURA2000) no hassles bout my mods..no questions asked, arranged for a rental asap and got me out of there.

I now drive a 2004 Corolla CE (cheap edition).. its not a bad little car and a peppy engine 1.8 dohc vvti 130HP..Im starting to like the money im saving on gas and the less stress when parking in public lots.. =)

The mechanic dood said that with the new tranny you wouldnt be able to feel it shifting. It will be soo smooth.. we' ll see.

Acura should pay for us to get 6spd conversions!!!!

Good luck, a pretty reliable source tells me basically no one knows what is wrong with the trannies and have not really fixed them, just replaces them. He works at an Acura dealership, not my local one. Acura is asking the dealers to drain the fluid thru a strainer and ship the metal flakes to Acura for analysis. They still can't figure it out. I think the tranny was not a good match for the vtec engine's power. I also heard that most of the planning for the CL was based on the premium CL, not the more powerful CLS. Don't know if that is the real problem tho.
I'd try to sell if I had the automatic, it';s only going to devalue more and who buys a Honda product and has to worry about a major failure? I know design problems and errors happen but the real test is how the company deals with the problem. Seems like Acura gets a D for that IMO.

I have the new tranny in my TL-S with the new computer and it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much smoother it is ridiculous! When in D5, you barely feel it shift which is kinda freaky. In SS, it's great though. Shifts smoother into the next gear (never did that before) and is quicker to shift as well. It was so smooth it kinda freaked me out as I thought the car was slower 'cuz in D5 it wasn't chirping the tires with harder acceleration, but total WOT fixed that little quandry...

For those who had the new tranny with a new ECU... any repeat failures?
