acura service pricing

it's time for me to have the water pump / timing belt / drive belts replaced on my 2001 CL-S. acura service just quoted me $799 plus tax. yeah, seems high doesn't it. i think i'll be searching for an independant shop for the work.

i also asked the guy about checking the valves while i had it there, and he said that in the 3 years he's worked in that service dept he's never seen a 3.2 need valve adjustment, so he highly recommended that i don't have it done unless they get noisy (which they aren't at 102k miles).

sharing the info,
nutz

I was abou tto ask the same thing. I have a 99 3.0, and I'm right below 50k miles now. I think it should be another 3 years or so befor eI get it up to 100k.

yep, what can i say -- i drive a lot of miles.

no, just the tranny at 68k. i drive almost all highway.

i plan to keep it to 200k -- and expect that another tranny death will be my only real problem given i maintain it fairly well.

yep -- it's gonna be pricey. unfortunately, when acura put that piece of shit in our cars, it totally screwed me cuz i bought it knowing i was gonna put a ton of miles on it. i'm kinda in a lose-lose situation: if i sell it, i lose my ass cuz of all the miles (and mods i've done to it); if i keep it, i'm almost guaranteed to go thru another tranny out of warranty between now and the 200k range and lose my ass on that. so, i decided to just keep it. i figure if the replacement tranny is better -- albeit still shitty, and i got 68k out of the bad one, then maybe i'll get lucky and make it further. like i said, i drive almost all highway now, so hard shifting is pretty rare over the life of the car.

well i've heard of peple replacing their tranny and it only lasts them as little as 10k miles, so good luck with that. you should just sell it and put it on a down payment for a more reliable car.. just my opinion.

and as for all the hwy driving...yea i bought my 03 cl not too long ago, like a month ago and i'm doing almost all hwy driving cuz of school, and i don't go through any traffic either.

How difficult to change timing belt, is this something that can only Acura mechanic can do? Or you could give it to your mechanic friend?

timing belt, water pump, and drive belts are all done at the same time. they flush the cooling system while they've got the pump off as well. soooo... it's not really a DIY but i'd be comfy having any reputable shop do it.
