Acura oil filter is tiny!!!!!

I can't believe it. I'm getting ready for my first do-it-yourself oil change on my 6Speed and wanted to make sure I could access the filter and the drain bolt. I read many posts on oil changes so I jacked the car up and took a look. THE FILTER IS TINY! I can't believe Acura is using such a small filter. I'm going with a Mobil 1 or Fram x2 filter.

Can anyone tell me the size of the drain bolt?

From memory the drain bolt is a 17mm. But my memory occasionally fails me.

Ever notice how many high-end cars have large oil capacities? Up to eight quarts.

Amsoil sdf44 large and works / fits just fine. mobil1 also good choice,,, both $10 to $15 range but you are paying for the tested best,,, marketing and commercials will have you believing $3.00 frams are the best hummm.. skimp now if you change very $3k miles and use petro oil. I use synthetic and change every 10k miles. My lab analysis after 10k says oil is at 6-7tbn, new petro oil is 6-8tbn (this is very basic) but it proves the point, if you want the best it's available. Do a little internet research.

I am not a fan of anything ,, well the CUBS but that another story. I'm a engineer that works on fighter planes, we search the world wide for anything that claims to be the BEST, FAST or what ever and then we use science test to verify claims. IF it's good we buy it. Again back to your question,, yes by this test (I donated the Amsoil filter) the fram2x is good

http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/filters.shtml

Fram has a very high production run and it's hard to insure they don't decontent their products,,, IE some of their filters are made with cardboard and some arn't. I stick to one product that is made the best and they don't have a lower product line.

You'll be ok with fram for 3-4k oil changes... extended changes you might what to use the best. I still change the filter every 5k. I keep my cars for 200k miles and most synthetic used truck engines are being torn down at 400k and show hardly any wear.

I am not sold on amsoil I just haven't found anything that independently tests better. Ester oil is better but it's 30 / qt. Most people know this oil has the special addition you put in posi track rears.
