Acura to make a '04 CL???
Acura to make a '04 CL???
Take this all with a grain of salt people...
I just got off the phone with a sales rep from my dealership. He was giving me the ol' sales pitch for the '03 6spd.
I asked him what the going rate was these days for a 6spd since the demise of the CL is imminent.
He did say that they got word just a few days ago (late last weeks), from Acura that the CL will be kept around for '04. He said only ONE model, and didn't know which one. He did follow up by saying that this came from some sales people, and did say "and they could be saying this so we continue to push the car, so tread lightly". He did follow up to mention that several weeks ago, it was communicated to them that the CL was to be axed.
So who knows what is going on, but I thought I'd post anyway.
Anyone else heard anything like this?

Following up on this, perhaps a 6spd ONLY CL-S is not a bad idea. They seem to sell well, and this will keep an Acura coupe around until a re-design comes around???
What about this? What if the CL IS going away? ...but the CLS is staying? That way, all the rumors we hear about the demise of the CL are true but they might still produce a CL Type S for another year. Just a thought.
My local newspaper (Harrisburg Patriot News) just had an article on the 2003 Accord and stated that the coupe is too replace the Acura CL, Acura's larger sport coupe. But they noted that they have word from Honda that we should look for a totally redesigned CL in a few years.
If this is true or not I don't know but I like thinking that I have the only year of the 6-speed CL

Honda Corp would not have announced that they were dropping the car if they were going to keep selling it, but, sales have gone up from 645 a month to 900 this last month. I think they want to focus on selling the new TSX and the new TL in the fall.
The CL was a profit loser with the auto tranny issues. It just wouldn't make sense to keep selling the 6 speed only, most buyers want automatic cars and would complain if they couldn't buy an automatic one. Honda would be admitting they had a lemon trans. But if Honda was smart they would offer an 04 CLS with mods or some major changes like COmptechs included, better tires and wheels etc, to boost sales. That would be smart IMO. since they have nothing to compete with the G35 coupe, Z car, all the hot coupes out now.
My rule for car salesman, if it's not in writing it never happened. They will say whatever it takes to make a sale. If they already know you love the CL, ignore anything they say and make your own decision. You probably know more about the car than they do. Just make your deal for what you want, you have to drive it not them.
