Acura CLX Coupe.............

Acura Announces New 2005 3.5 CLX Luxury Performance Coupes

Torrance, Calif 04/07/2003 -- Powerful lines and a sculpted interior with leather seats give the new 2005 Acura CLX sports coupe a fresh and inviting feel. Out on the road, its aggressive performance gives it commanding authority. The new 3.5 liter 340-hp supercharged i-VTEC™ engine sends torque to the 18-inch alloy wheels through either a short-throw 6-speed manual or a new 6-speed Sequential SportThrow™ (SST) automatic transmission. In corners, CLX Type-S models enjoy the course-holding vigilance of a new Digital Stability Assist (DSA) Handling, 4-wheel adjustable independent double-wishbone suspension and variable-assist rack-and-pinion steering. As always, safety is a top priority, and the CLX is the first Acura to come with standard front and rear side-curtain air bags. One of the hottest options offered on CLX and CLX Type-S is the factory-installed Wireless Internet (in available areas) and Acura DVD-based satellite-linked Navigation and Acura/Bose Audio/Video System. With its generously appointed interior, the CLX offers a new standard of luxury performance that's sensible yet refined. But at heart, the CLX is the true sports coupe.

Ahhh, the old CL-X concept car, what are car (or at least the 1st gen) should have looked like if the designers were smart.

340 supercharged ponies We can assume this is FWD otherwise the "press release" would have stated something to the extent that this car is breaking the Acura mold and is RWD.

340 bhp FWD = torque steer of death!!!

I remember when I first saw the new CLX, I was so happy with the look of it, it was so dramatic, I was going to get one, and then the G1 CL came out, talk about rethinking a concept!
Well, we did get the grill and the color I guess.

The funny thing is that this concept debuted in 1995, and look at how nice it looks and modern even for todays standerds...it make you wonder what happened to the designer that made this, considering todays rather bland styling by acura...

Probably not a practical design and safe from an engineering point of view. That nose on the CLX concept would probably crumple under a HumVee.

Well, you're not supposed to be driving under a Humvee anyway!

But it doesn't look too far off from a Pontiac Firebird in terms of the point that the bumper comes to.

How bout this from their site? Is the 6-speed truly 1/2 second quicker 0-60?
"2003 sees the addition of an available close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission to the 3.2 CL Type-S. Designed specifically for the performance characteristics of the CL, the 6-speed manual delivers increased engine control, redistributes weight backward for better handling and reduces the car's 0-60 time by more than a half second compared to a CL Type-S with automatic transmission."
