Acura CL-S vs. Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

A guy I went to college with acquired a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder... I Believe it is a GT but not certain. According to Edmunds this thing can compete with Mustangs and Camaros.
Would the Spyder be able to beat the CL type S? Both stock.
How would these two cars compare?

200 bhp and a curb weight of 3307-auto, 3241 for manual. I really don't think it can keep up w/ a mustang or even a cl-p. havn't seen 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times yet.

there competing w/ the mustang, camaro , firebird, vw cabrio cuz there in the idential price range and because they have convertable options. not because of performance. IMO

Ok, so perhaps Lucky should have said it this way, "Has anyone ever raced [and beaten] one of these?" Damn the numbers on paper....

I have yet to try but I just know the chance is going to come up pretty soon.

There you go. Thanks Ken. He doesn't do mods. Number one I never really liked the guy. If he comes up here for a weekend I need to know if I can take him. I don't know if he would race, but he has been unpredictable in the past.

With those numbers, it looks like it could beat a CL-P

I have raced both a GS-T, and a GS-X, with my Integ. GS-T should not be a problem, but a GS-X will do a 14.9-14.8 quarter stock (AWD).

my cousin has a 99 GSX, the GS-T's are actually slighty faster than the GSX's. according to the dealer. but on the track the gsx will be faster cause of the awd.

I used to own a Talon AWD Turbo (same as an Eclipse GSX) and it was faster than a GS-T off the line (the GSX is easier to launch correctly), but from a rolling start the GS-T is generally faster because it weighs less.

Of course if you're racing a modified Eclipse/Talon in your stock CL-S, chances are the E/T will win. The turbo engine in those cars are extremely easy to modify for big HP gains.

Before my CL-S I used to drive a black '98 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD. And yes, I was competing with my friend's Pontiac Grand Prix GTP fairly well - evenly, I guess.

Now, I have problems competing with the same GTP with my CL-S, i.e., from about 0 to 70-80 km/h! What does that tell you?

I guess it says that the Talon's AWD takeoff gives almost the best pull out there but after 70-80 km/h that's where the CL-S comes into its best.

They're not fast! A friend of mine has a 2000 Eclipse, and I beat it with my 2000 Max(when I had it). I beat it by atleast 2 car lengths, and we went up to about 110mph. So, no way can it compete against a CL-S!
