ACP Rotors

Has anyone on the board successfully installed ACP Rotors ? If so, what pads did you go with. I,m so fooken tired of shudder and the run around I know is coming, because, they cooperated at 30K and surfaced our TIRED rotors and yes changed the pads per the TL TBS..........whoopie, now the shudder is back at 47,000 miles.........so to rid this mess, I need to know if this is a doable solution.......
Thanks !

Looking at replacing front and back with slotted rotors, what color should I get ? I have a Black CLS......
Thanks again !

some people used the x-drilled rotors w/ endless pads.

hey go back to the dealer and tell them to replace it instead of fucken around resurfacing it.

I'll be ordering Axxis Metal Master pads and Cross-Drilled rotors from ACP very shortly...I'm partial on the braided hoses as of now...

Aren't the CT and ACP rotors just crossdrilled and slotted blanks? I would suggest going with Brembo for good rotors...

Cross-drilled may or may not last longer than stock. IMO, go with slotted if you can. The cross-drilled can suffer from cracking problems (depending on a lot of stuff).

The rotors will probably last longer if:

1. The pads are properly "bedded" (see green fade and bedding)
2. The pads conduct heat away from the rotor better than stock rotors and have a compound that is not too abrasive.

The "last longer" depends on why the disks are wearing (getting machined due to warping or getting machined due to abrasive issues)...

Brembo does not have blanks out for our car yet but are supposedly working on it.

KVR does have both front and rear discs as well as a number of different pads that work with their product. They are a touch more expensive than ACP but they may be a better quality too.

You will have to call KVR and the price is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The phone # 1 800 636-0854 (You’ll need it. The web site doesn’t list the 2001-2003 CL Type-S)

They have the slotted and the X-drilled (I suggest the slotted).

BTW, the Brembos are NOT available -– for the CLS -- as stated above (three dealers confirmed this)

Slotted Rotor Front -- $135.00 each # HO-575 (size and width not verified [I have heard a few stories of people getting the wrong size disks from various vendor, so take care.])

Slotted Rotor Rear -- $167.00 each # HO-010

Web link: http://www.kvrperformance.com/world/world.html

BTW, one of the setups I've tried and felt nice had:

1. The older ACP rotors front/rear (slotted only/no x-drill)
2. Porterfield Carbon-Kevlar brake pads R4S compound
3. Comptech SS Braided lines (IMO, the stock lines are OK for a bit)

Porterfield brake link (for pads): www.porterfield-brakes.com

Hard to tell (without detective work) with the list prices on the ACP site not matching the list prices quoted by KVR

It would be easier and quicker to just get them from Snook (AKA Tim) as opposed to ordering from Canada!

Tim doesn't sell at LIST, so the prices won't match. The biggest clue is that both come in your choice of Cadmium Plating in either gold, black or silver. How many other rotors offer that???? NONE I bet. There is your detective work for the night Sherlock!!!! Watson out!!!!

Hmmm....

I still have no idea why people don't have a look before saying something that is "disconnected" from what I'm saying. Tim DOES print LIST prices. I didn't say that he sells at LIST. I said that his LIST prices don't match those quoted by KVR...

Here is a picture of Tim's (autocarparts.com page WITH LIST PRICES):

No detectvie work needed...when I received the box it was from KVR in Canada. When I had to return the rear rotors (which btw, the TL ones do not fit on the CL, or maybe it might be the difference between an S and a P), I shipped them to KVR in Canada....

Yes, thank you. KVR on the box is about as conclusive as you can get!

When I purchased my Comptech stuff from Tim (autocarparts.com), the boxes were shipped directly from Comptech...

Part II:

So, are you saying that the "rears" may not fit *OR* that they some FUBAR situation developed? When I called KVR, they claimed they had rears specifically made for the Acura CL Type-S.

I received an e-mail back this morning from Porterfield and they verified that there were no Brembo or Zimmerman rotors available (yet) for the CL Type-S.

Part III:

For anyone interested here is the price info for ALL the Porterfield brake pads for the CL Type S:

(Carbon-Kevlar Race compound)
Front pads AP 787 R-4 $189.00
Rears pads AP 536 R-4 $110.00

(Carbon-Kevlar Hi-Perf Street/Track [high performance street])

Front pads AP 787 R-4S $119.00
Rear pads AP 536 R-4s $79.00

Approx. shipping per set: $12.00
Pads are in stock

Once again, Tim has only the rears shown on his site and the list prices don't match... (I would presume he could order them and get them for a few bucks less)

Since Brembo's website for it's brakes don't specify support for the CL, can someone tell me what car they are for? Do i trust Comptech and believe they are for the Acura RL?

Here is the info for Brembo:

Brembo
1585 Sunflower Ave.
Costa Mesa, California
92626 USA
1-800-325-3994

They do not currently offer OEM rotor replacements (front and/or rear) for the 3.2 CLS/TLS.

The Brembo folks said that Comptech was NOT selling their rotors.

Does that help?

Brembo said that they are working on front/rear rotors for the 3.2 CLS and the approximate due date is around 6-months from now (tentative date/info).

The kit that bobowah got is the BIG brake kit. It is not an OEM size rotor. It is almost 1.5 inches bigger. It is made for the CL.

Two different items:

Item 1:

Brembo kit: big calipers that need 17" or bigger wheels with lot of spoke clearance (as in BIG brake kit). The replacement rotors are for the "Brembo 13.x brake kit". Those disks are around 328mm in diameter; the OEMs/stocks are 300mm in diameter.

Note: Price is around $2000.00 for the kit: a set with calipers, mounting hardware, ss lines, etc. The disks are around $383.00 each.

Item 2:

Brembo OEM replacement rotors --> check back in 6-months.

Finally, I specifically asked if the OEM replacement rotors that Comptech USA was selling were from Brembo. The rep said NO!
(If he gave me wrong info, please give them a call. It wouldn't be the first time some sales person or CS rep gave a BS answer. I do have to add the information I got from a Brembo reseller that told me that same story and the stories match.)

Is that helpful????

Or am I still missing something?
