Accident CL-S - what is my car worth?
Hi AZ,
Long time lurker first time poster. My name is Aaron and I've been an Acura lover forever now.
I have a Acura CL 2001 Type-S and a Acura TSX 2010.
Sad to say but I just got into an accident with my CL! We had such a long journey together but now she's not in driving condition as I rear-ended someone on the freeway. Front is smashed. The radiator and the front bumper / lights are busted. Pretty minor accident but my front is not pretty anymore
Specs:
205,xxx miles
new trans rebuilt 2009
new engine 2011 (replaced with one that had 68,xxx miles)
timing belt,
So this car used to run like a champ before the accident!
Questions are :
how can I best get the value for my car? Insurance is not going to reimburse my car's damages. The car has a lot of miles but the engine is only about 80k by now. The body is in pretty bad shape.
Is this considered a salvage now (since cost of damage of radiater/front bumper/lights/labor is gonna cost more than the car itself)?
Better to sell piece by piece?
Advice?
Thanks !

I would say piece by piece, I know alot of the guys here would like pieces of it. If its black interior I would be interested in some of the pieces, for my tan interior.
I've read on here 2k as a whole car.
Not sure about your title either.
Good luck !!

If the damage exceeds the value of the vehicle, which is easy to do in your case, it will be branded as a salvage title. Hoping you have comp/collision for your CL, you have 2 choices:
1. Have the insurance company buy you out. They will give you the worth of the vehicle minus your deductible minus cost of damages, I believe.
2. Use that money to buy the car back from the company, shouldn't be very much.
I'd only do number 2 if you have the time or money to repair it. Same with selling piece by piece. Do you have the means to strip and sell a complete engine/tranny? Cause I certainly don't.

I would just salvage it out, and accept whatever the insurance will give you cause most likely it's totaled from what your telling us. Sucks, I almost lost mine at the beginning of May if it makes you feel any better.
