Accident!

AHHHH!!!! I had an accident! Front right is destroyed, left side door scraped from front to back! Left front rim dented, gouged and scraped. I was going to offer some test parts for you guys to play with but the right Xenon and driving light are in about 10,000 pieces. Everyone was fine but my baby. 7000.00 In damage! No air bag deployment, it was all cosmetic. There wasn't even a misallignment. I'll post pics later, before and after!

There was a disabled car in the center lane of a highway and everyone was running about 50 or so when this happend at 1:00 am a few days ago. Suddenly everyone was on their brakes and swerving all over the road. I negotiated around one person and another hit me knocking me into a car to my right. All I heard was the horrible dull noise of metal crushing like a can and then the glass spraying over the windshield. The accident covered three lanes.

Sounds like having a bad day in a NASCAR race.

Sorry to hear that!

However, wouldn't it be interesting to go back 3 months and count up the number of F'ed up CL's, just from this forum alone?

Sorry to hear about your accident. I haven't had one yet and so haven't most others but I would be curious as to how many near-misses or potential accidents we've missed out on? For me, about a dozen in 2000. Which is about 11 too many.

Don't worry after about 60 days of getting repaired, you won't even remember that it was damaged in the first place.

Mercury....sorry to hear about the "crunch". Damn that must have been scary. I take it you're OK since the bag didn't even go off. Look at the GOOD side--at least no frame damage and now they can properly align the body panels!! Maybe even some better paint. Best of luck.

No one was cited for anything. The guy that was stopped was so lucky that he wasn't hit or was outside the car. I signed the papers to get the Silver S fixed and can't wait till she's back. They're replacing the hood, right side front panel, right side front panel, hood pumps, hinges and padding, radiator (which is dented, never exploded), horns, grill, front bumper assembly, xenons and driving lights, and left front rim. I'm sure there are misc parts but that's what I remember. It's like seeing a best friend go to the hospital, I felt so bad. Thanks guys for the support. I'll post the pics when I get her back.

I don't know the rules in your state but you might check into diminished value. I was rear ended about a year ago and when I tried to trade in my car none of the dealers would give me a decent trade in because of prior damage. Even though the car looked perfect to me they have a way of finding these things. Well, to make a long story short found out Texas has a two statute of limitations and I got an additional $1500 out of the other guys insurance. You must prove it though. When it's repaired go to Carmax or similar and ask them what they'd give you. If they low ball you because of the repair tell them to give you a copy in writing so you can submit it to the insurance. I'm spreading the word so others don't get shafted at trade in. Good luck.

Mercury,
Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad to hear you are ok. Cars can be repaired. My CLS feels for your CLS. We met at a SCCA autocross in Uniondale, LI last fall. Good Luck.
