acceleration problem

i notice that my car accelerates a little by itself. it feels as if im tapping the gas pedal lightly and letting go. it happens continuously untill i reach speeds of 40+. i notice the rpm jump just a tiny bit each time. It only happens usually when im using the a/c. anyone have any ideals whats wrong?

Nothing to worry about. When the a/c compressor kicks in, your engine's idle circuit will compensate the load put on by the a/c compressor by raising the idle a few rpms. This prevents the rpms from dropping too low and causing a rough idle. It unfortunately causes your car to lurch forward a little When the compressor de-energizes, it feels like you just let go of your gas pedal because the idle circuit dropped the idle down. My car does this too. Hope this answers your question.......

i know that when at a complete stop while braking its normal for the car to move lurch forward a bit when the compressor de-energizes. but this happens when im driving normally.

When your car is in park or neutral and the A/C on and the blower on high, what is your tach reading? It should be around 750 (give or take 50 rpms)

That's good. IMHO, I don't think you have anything wrong w/ your CL. At lower speeds, especially in drive when the car's stopped, you will feel the ac cycle. As you speed up, you should notice the cycling becomes less noticeable because the car has more momentum and thereby masking the ac compressor's cycling. I will assume that your ac is cold and you don't hear unusual compressor noises( kinda like a rattling metallic knocking noise).
The only other reason I can think of (if there is a problem) if there's some kind of excessive electrical draw either from the radiator fans or the compressor's clutch coil which can put more load on your alternator and to certain extent, load down your engine.
If you still think something is amiss with your CL, I would take it down to a good shop and tell them your dilemma. It's really hard to diagnose something w/out the aid of dianostic tools (AC pressure gauges or a load tester) to pinpoint a problem. Of course this will cost some $bux$ to do the diag. If you can live with it, you saved some $$. If not, then have someone check it out (peace of mind)
