99 CL 2.3 5spd vs 2006 Grand Cherokee 5.7L

So today i was driving a friend to class, cruising down the avenue when a jeep grand cherokee pulls up next to me, looks almost brand new. I think nothing of it, just sit at the light waiting for my turn. The light turns green, and we both slowly start to roll. I like to hear my intake, so i give the car a lil gas, and i notice the guy next to me gun it once he heard that. So now im like "fuck it, y not". I floor it through 1st gear, slap to second in which i have caught dead even with him, and then to the beginning of 3rd where we shut it down because of the next approaching light. We went up to about 70 i believe, dead even. I was disappointed that my car couldn't beat an SUV, but then again it is a 5.7 liter V-8 vs a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder with just intake. The guy was cool though, laughed and gave eachother thumbs up at the next light and went our seperate ways.

you really think so? it sure sounded and looked like he was flooring it. i knew it was a 5.7L cuz at the next light i let him go 1st so i could see the trim level of the jeep on the back. Maybe its not broken in yet?

if the old 4.7 can easily do a 0-60 in the low 7's, im sure the new 5.7 could. I personally dont think you would stand a chance.

yea they do, but i didnt see a hemi sticker on it. I guess either the dude wasnt flooring it or i got lucky, or maybe his engine isnt broken in yet or something. i was shocked too when i saw a 5.7L sticker on the back

If it's a 5.7L, it's a HEMI. 330hp to be exact... 0-60 = 7secs 1/4 in 15.5secs per Car and Driver magazine.

5.7L > 2.3L <---

EDIT: BTW, just in case you didn't already know, a 5.7L is a 350CID V8.

EDIT: My 4.0L XJ takes off like a bat out of hell when you nail the throttle, I couldn't imagine what that thing feels like.

Power to weight ratio... People have to remember this....Just because they put out 330hp, does not mean they can beat us. They have twice as much weight.
