Cool 98 3.0CL vs. 98-02 V6 Accord

So my buddy is all into his 6th Honda Accord V6 Coupe. Its the same engine as mine so I have always been curious how we'd match up. I figured his car is a little ligher since it's a Honda. He's always coming up to me with new information about how it's possible to mod our engines; and he tells me what new mods he got on his. He's got this huge tin can exhaust system that hangs like 3 inches too low. It almost scrapes on speed bumps and he's on the stock suspension.

Annnyways. He has intake pulleys and exhaust. I have intake. So I figured he'd beat me but was curious to race him and see how it'd turn out. Last night, we were both heading home from a meeting and I drove up next to him with my buddy in the car. He looks over and instantly knows what I'm thinking. So, he puts his hand up in the air and counts us down (we started at about 30mph) . 3... 2... 1...

Instantly I pull ahead of him about a car length. By the time we get up to 70mph he's maybe 2 cars behind me.

I was shocked! I figured maybe it was a fluke. So he lined up again, and we start from maybe 10 mph. This time I pulled even further ahead of him... I had the race in the bag from the beginning!

I still dont know why my car is faster. Both cars are have automatic transmissions. I have 1 person in the car, and an intake. He has no one in the car and has intake pulleys exhaust and a lighter car. Oh well!! I have bragging rights now!

maybe your motor is just in better condition than his with less wear and tear on it. I'd be shocked too if i was him, and pissed also lol.

didnt the CL have a different transmission from the accord? I remember when I was looking for tranny's for my CL, I thought I might have been able to use an accord tranny and no can do...

Either way, good kill..

Now that I think of it, my friend and I did the same thing and he had/has an intake, exhaust, pulley's, and VAFC with a very nice kick at vtec and I still beat him in my stock 3.0 with just an intake...

Sounds like he might not maintain his engine the way you do.

What year accord coupe was it? The 98-99 accords V6's are slightly faster than the 00-02 due to the ULEV emmisions. Honda never revised the 200HP and 195TQ rating after the change but my old 01 Accord V6 with CAI and Exhaust was much slower than my dads 98 AV6 with a K&N filter. He would take me by a good 2-3 cars to 90MPH! Now with my 03 I get to give it back to him!

98 LX V6 is the lightest accord for that generation and can usually take the other ones
