7500 mile service and tranny question...

Okay I'm taking my car in for the 7500 mile service tomorrow... (today I guess it would be). Now I'm heading back home, by myself, to my parents next Tuesday for Thanksgiving. It's a 1400 mile round trip. Not being paranoid or anything because I haven't had any tranny glitches but is it worth it for an extra $45 bucks to get my tranny fluid changed. Yeah yeah I know every 15,000 miles, but cut that in half and maybe it will cost me more but hopefully/possibly/maybe alleviate (sp?) the change of future problems?

Just wondering. If fellow members could respond with their opinions/suggestions on this by 10:00 am CST it would be much appreciated.

BTW: Since it's suppose to be nice this weekend, the plan it to wash/wax/wash/wax my baby to my hearts content and get some pictures with the new tint job. Hopefully I'll be able to get the posted before I leave.

Night All,
Brenden

The tranny fluid is supposed to be changed every 30,000 miles. A lot of members are doing it at 15,000. 7500 is WAY too soon.

mcdaniel: Thats what I figured, but I'm still rather new to cars and figured I'd ask some of the more experienced people here.

Don't waste $45 to let the dealer do it. It took me all of 10 min. to do the job. 3.1 qts. of Honda ATF-Z fluid, and a new drain plug washer cost me about $9.50

Although I did mine at about 5k miles, it's really not going to help with the trans failure rates. Fluid changes are good for getting rid of old contaminated fluid, of which mine was not (and damn well shouldn't have been.) But for less than 10 bucks, what the hell.

If your tranny's gonna fail, it's gonna fail. More frequent fluid changes are not going to help one bit. But, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and do it yourself. It won't hurt.

I had my tranny fluid changed at 30,000 miles. Haven't had a transmission glitch at all. Course I haven't raced the car either.

Gee- I don't know... All I can say is that I changed the trans fluid on my wife's 00 Tl, my sisters 02 Tl, my brothers 01 Tl, and both my demos at or before 7500 miles. I leave it for all you to decide if that means anything...

it does make it easier if you own the shop.

But honestly Wayne, the trans fluid drained was perfect. Nice and clear, red as could be (as it should.) The only situation I saw rectified was cleaning the small amount of metal grunge off the magnetic drain plug (and this is normal as per all of my ASE certifed master mechanic friends.)

If the original trans design has a flaw, the early fluid change is not going to help. It may give you better piece of mind, but no real gain on component longevity.

At least that's my take on it. Even though I did do a partial fluid change (3 qts.) at 5k!
