6th Gear Fear

Just got my cl-s 6 speed 3 days ago. Im very (overly) cauious when throwing it into 6th. I have a fear im going to put it into Reverse and destroy my car.

is this even possible?, or is the tranny 'smart' enough to block entry into Reverse when your at highway speed?

thanks

P.S. Im very impressed with this car, and the gas millage is fantastic.

Go ahead and drop it to sixth ! It will not let you go into reverse. You will get better gas mileage once you start use the sixth on the highway and just cruising.

Shifting to reverse instead of 6th has never crossed my mind. Just relax and let the shifter lead. 6th is just a straight pull back from 5th anyway. I don't think it can even go into reverse while moving forward. Just enjoy the fun.

There's a reverse lockout that prevents this from happening... (shifting into reverse when you are going for 4th or 6th). You can only engage reverse at low speeds...

I know I've read about it somewhere (owners manual probably), but I couldn't find many references to it here... (search for reverse lockout).

fsttyms1 is doing a 6spd conversion on his 2G TL, and I recall him talking about it...

You should worry more about going into 2nd when you mean to go into 6th

Yes reverse lockout prevents it. Have no fear.

thanks guys,

BTW: your fog lights look great (better than the stockers IMO) - what brand are they and what bulbs are you running? - did you wire in a switch - or wire directly to headlight circuit?

Oh, man. My ex did that so many times after she got hers. I used to cringe everytime she did it. Could explain why the car needed major tranny repair, including a new clutch/flywheel/shiftfork about a week after we broke up. I told her time and time again it's not a race car and to treat it with respect. No one ever listens to me.
