6spd swap

Alright guys within the next 3months I should officially have swapped my crappy slushbox AT for a beautiful 6spd. I have found a few different MT sellers, now its just down to negotiating and finding the best one. Two of them are 03' CL-S 6SPD trannys and 1 is an 05' TL 6SPD tranny. Their all including linkage, cables, pedals, tranny, and clutch, flywheel and PP and all other parts for a swap.

The only question I have is about the ECU. I heard that because the CL-S was available in auto or manual tranny, that its as simple as just swapping ECU's. But I also read somewhere that I would have to get my AT ECU worked on to trick it into thinking that my tranny is still an auto even though it is a manual, because it will screw with the speedo, engine, tranny and other parts.

Any truth to this or can I simply swap my AT ECU for a 6SPD ECU?

Thnx Alot in advance and I wil definetley keep you guys posted and up to date on the proccess.

Oh Yeah, I will be #16 White/Ebony 6SPD w/Navi!!!!

And this is really cheaper then selling your car & buying a 6mt car?
Especially when you can get 6MT cars for around $11K now.

From I read you will need the 6mt ECU, You will also have to get a 6MT TB & get rid of your VSA. Don't forget the rear engine mount.
Better put headers on it while your there. Install will be cake with the trans already out.

You will need to get the ECU along with the new motor wire harness and the CKP sensor front cam gear and TDC sensors for your motor (granted you have the type-s) Some members on the accord forum are working on a module to trick the auto ecu into thinking every thing is normal but its not done yet. If you do it i personally would go with the CL-S trans just in case of any differences in wiring. If you stay CL-S6 every thing will be easy to convert over

No its not easier than selling my car and buying a 6spd, but i absolutely love my Cl and cant imagine giving it up. And it's White/Black w/Navi which first of all is my absolute favorite CL cover combo and secondly i dont think im gonna have an easy time finding 1 of 15 CL-S6 in my color combo w/navi.

And i wasnt aware that the A/T and the 6spd had different TB's

It might not make $$ sense but it's an adventure. Hope you can do some of the work by yourself and post pics when you're done and good luck.

DAMN YOU!!! I wanted to be the first '01 CLS Non-Navi AT --> '01 CLS NAVI MT. Good luck and please post results and costs. I'm gonna be doing this sometime soon and I've already read the TL swap like 10x but I want to know what kind of adventure I'm in for. One more thing. How come everytime someone even thinks about starting this swap everybody jumps in with the whole "trade it in, it's cheaper" argument? Maybe you're right but I know in my particular scenario I'm not gonna trade in my paid-off car to make payments when I can just round up parts little by little and then take on this wonderful project. Anyone who is serious about doing this swap has surely weighed out the "trade it in" variable and came up with their own reason of why not to so just let them do it and help them out along the way. Just my two cents. GOOD LUCK!!

Because the amount of $, Labor & time needed of this swap doesn't make much sense if you can buy another car. This is not a civic. It's a lot more complex.
What happens in 2 years when something new comes along? Good luck selling the car or getting any $ out of it that you put in.
Putting in $6K into a car worth $10-$11K is not smart
Right now this is for someone who doesn't care & wants to be different & wants to make a project out of it.

Fuzzy is right, its not just as simple as remove A, add B. Crank and drive. Theres going to be all kinds of unforseen problems. And BIG knows this, its the project im sure hes looking forward to. He could put that 6000k+ plus his trade towards a down payment on a new bad ass car that is a manual already and not have any headaches... although I give him props for trying, but I guarantee when hes about 30% done hes gonna be frustrated. He loves his car so more power to him. We'll see. Cant wait to hear about all the codes hes throwing, and all the mounting problems hehehhee.

^^ I know and am expecting problems and codes, but I just always wished my car was a 6spd. First of all I luv my car, i mean luv it. Its so comfortable and i luv my ineterior and the styling of my car. I was thinking about getting a new car. I have $10k in a bank account just aching to go towards a car. I went to Acura last week to possibly get a good deal on an 08'TL-S before the new generation comes out, but There werent any in the area that were in stick, there were a handfull left, and they were all in auto.

I was looking at getting an Evo IV, but im a few thousand dollars short. I found one for $25K, but even if i sell my car for $10k and use the other $10k I have saved up im still 5k short, and im not gonna get that much money for a long time.

Ive been looking for an 03' CL-S6 in NJ, but havent really found the right one yet. Someone in the black market is selling theirs in South Jerzy for 14k, with alot of mods, which is a steal, but its in NBP, which really isnt my first color chioice

CKP Crankshaft position sensor, need the lower timing belt gear and the front cam gear. They are different on the manual vs the auto. Get ready to shit thought. That sensor is near 500 bucks.

Shouldnt have a single one. I did the CL-S6 swap on my 2nd gen TL over a year ago. 75k miles later ZERO codes.

Exactly my car is fully paid off, and the last thing i want is a $400/month payment for 4years. I just luv my Cl and yeah it would be a hell of alot easier to sell mine and buy a CL-S6spd, but i cant find one in my color combo anywhere, (maybe its cuz theres only 15 of them!!) By December there will be 16 of them!

Umm... the Throttle body part is wrong. I have a bored tb on my car out of an Auto TLS. And as many of you know I'm running a CLS6. So you will NOT need a new tb

Won't he just need to take the VSA throttle off?

I'd assume there are also things needed to keep from having codes & check lights after VSA is removed.

If he removes the VSA and uses a CLS6 harness along with an CLS6 ECU, then there will be no codes at all for the VSA as the CLS6 has no VSA but rather a LSD...

Yeah, if it was 4 years ago and hadn't been done already.

The fact that there will be another white with black navi CLS 6MT is the cool part, it is the rarest of all the CL 6MT color combos out there. Now all you have to do is figure out how to get a "417" VIN to correspond with the set up.

I'm curious....Would a swapped 6MT have LSD? Is that separate or part of the manual trans?

TL 6MT's have horrible torque steer, the CL-S 6 speed has incredibly minimal torque steer.

Let him do the swap, it's been done before. Nothing we do with our cars makes sense other than routine maintenance. It's always more expensive the way we do it. That's why we come here and talk about our cars instead of buying Kias. This isn't a thrifty shopper Forum for trading coupons and hunting down on sale items.

I would have an LSD and VSA gets replaced by TCS(traction control)

Its part of the manual tranny; where the axles come out to go to the wheels...

Incorrect. The CLS6 does not have TCS or VSA. It was written in many threads and in car review articles when the car was being released.

Why not consider the 07/08 tls 6 speed, those cars are quick and it has all the options as well as power

If OP goes through with this swap, you have a VERY VERY good tuner who has done these swaps SEVERAL times already. Search for user Jae or Jae83. His shop is called "The LAB" in Fort Lee. If you want to have no worries and get it done right.

I way reading a thread in the TL forum by fsttyms1. According to his parts list i will need to spend about $800 to $1K in parts to convert my auto type-s motor to a 6spd motor. I was thinking that it would be a lil easier and cost the same to just buy a used CL-S6 motor with low mileage. This way i wouldnt have to change anything. All I have to do is pull out my current engine/tranny and put in the new 6spd engine/tranny (besides the interior work of new pedals, shifter and tach)

You're better off selling your car and rebuying an '03 6-speed if you ask me.

You confuse me a little bit man...

1.) You don't need to have a car completely paid off if you want your Evo- If you have 20K saved, finance the other 5K for 1 or 2 years.

2.) In another post you said you don't want a $400 car payment for the next 4 years. But if your car is paid off and you get $9,000 for it and spend $13,000 on a new MT white/black interior w/navi. Then you can a.) finance the other $4,000 or use the money from your $10,000 that you have saved.

Your money knowledge is somewhat scary and you should maybe read some articles at www.bankrate.com in regards to automobiles and money.

Whatever you do, don't do a 6-speed swap, the only people who should do this are the 1st gen cl or the 2nd gen TL. Its completely pointless and not cost effective.

I would just purchase NBP CLs-6 and paint it white

anyone else agree?

unless he just likes working on cars, which I think we all do, but damn, going a little extreme here.

and definitley not cost effective.
