they cost about 145 a piece! well that's what they are going for on the website that is listed in the post above. but if they can do what they say i guess it may be worth it.

stock are I believe 5000k so 6000k will only have a slight blue hue to them. I don't see why it would be illegal or even noticeable for that matter. I say get them because almost every car has HID's nowadays and only the premium luxury cars have the 6000K like the MB500 and 600.

I think the stock HID is bright. Did u upgrade your fogs. Those are very dull.6000k will be very blue, 8000k damn near purple in hue. The more color, the less intensity to actually see.

our hid's are 35 watts, and the piaa's might have the same color but not the same light output.

Stock is 4100 or 4300, no difference really.....6000K is a lot "whiter" than stock, not brighter, in fact...a little dimmer than stock, and yes they are illegal, but no one ever gets pulled over for 6000K, if u have anything higher than that, then that's a different story, I wouldn't recommend on anything over 6000K since the "big guys" like philips and osram don't make anything over 6000K I believe there is a reason. And HID are 35watt, much less than the halogen but much brighter, so i say, yeah...6000K is worth every penny to get. Also, I highly doubt ANY stock car will come with 6000K in them.....the mb probably just look whiter but then that's probably because of the projective design of the headlight....

Auto lighting FAQ
The question poses the question -- "How do you define 'worth it'?"
Highest light output without regard to “spectrum.”
Highest "effective" light output (ability to see is best)
Least hassles
Bluest color
Color match for planned or existing illumination?
Longevity
Ability to be used in fog
Ability to see street signs
Legality
Novelty
Add more here…
A point for possible consideration (this is an excerpt from the FAQ):
'As an example, a 6000K bulb in some headlamps might not show much difference at all, others will look more blue. These are observations when standing in front of the car looking into the headlights from above. After getting over the initial thrill of cooler light, many drivers have noticed that important traffic information are not as apparent as with OEM standard bulb. White traffic signs is being lit too much and can feel glaring.
During winter 2002, exponential use of Kelvin (K) rating is used as brightness improving advertisement. It’s all just big empty words. Do a search for "Kelvin color temperature" on a search engine (i.e.: yahoo.com) and you will see that it has nothing to do with brightness and all to do with color. Going upwards from 4100K means that your light turns blue at the expense of total brightness and yellow color. Theoretically, if the same brightness were to be kept, you would have to increase the wattage of the bulb from 35 to maybe 40W, and redesign the ballast. This would be a very costly solution, so that’s pretty much why all automotive HID bulbs are 35W...'

Thats just because your camera picks it up more and your eyes perceives blue light as brighter than white but in fact the higher you go in color temp the dimmer the light output becomes. Whoever said 6000k are used in benzs isnt really correct They use the same temp (well within a few 100) as the stock acura HID
it just has to do with the optics![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

The auto levelers just keep the beam at a constant angle which may cause it to look like the color is changing but the reason it has those colors is because you have projectors in the X5 i believe. We had a GS400 with the auto leveling thing and the lights didnt appear to change color just move up and drop down when you started the car. The color temp on the X5 bulbs is probably right around 5400k

1StGenCL is right, the reason for the color change is because of the projector lens. it doesn't have anything to do with the auto leveling feature.
my parents have a lexus es300 with that feature, and it only "appears" to be brighter because when the car is turned on it activates the auto leveler.
