6-Speed…..Cheaper ???

Ok now I was just thinking.

No body kit.
No additional HP
No Auto
No VSA
Same size wheels & tires

Is it possible that the 6-Speed will be LESS expensive then the Slush Box ???

I recall the new price is 33+ K cause its limited edition or something. Could be wrong though.

I would bet it will be cheaper.

I swore I read something somewhere (not here) before saying the manual would cost somewhat less then the automatic. Not much tho.

I would bet $500-1000 cheaper.

I think I’ll take my 1,000 bucks and drive on over to Park Ave Acura for Headers.
My dealer thinks Comptech is TABOO.

That is assuming they fit with the new Tranny design.

ShawnS - It makes sense with a manual tranny it should be about $1k cheaper than an mannymatic. That's based on all others pricing structure in the past.

The "limited edition type" might give my theory a moot status though, who knows. Hope for you it's cheaper! Make's your wait that much nicer.....

I agree Mack. Even if the manual is cheaper, you probably wouldn't be able to wheel and deal on a limited car as you would on a more available 2002 Auto. Good luck with the 6 speed Shawn.

I'm willing to bet it will debut for a MUCH more expensive price. I'd say 3-4K more AKA dealer markup.

There will be more demand for it, and Acura knows that they can cash in.

After about 6 months I think it will drop in price and be about the same price as we paid for our slushboxes.

My written order says MSRP for the price. NO MARKUP.

MSRP is usually BAD, but could be GOOD in this case.

the CL is selling so bad (with our without a manual tranny) that I doubt they will have the nerve to raise the price and i certainly wouldnt expect any but the grimiest dealers to place a markup on it.

Never underestimate what dealers will do. When the 01 CL-S came out, my nearest dealer was tacking on a $2000 markup, plus some seriously overpriced options, including some ugly ass chrome wheels. From their standpoint, they might get some sucker to pay it. They can always lower the price in negotiations, but never raise it. I think there will be some intial hype over the 6 speed, then demand will die down to typical MT levels of 10-15%. The question I have is whether production will be sufficient to allow bargaining on the 6MT once that happens. Or will production be SO low that supply is tight for the whole model year. Only time will tell.

even if it does cost less, its not worth the trade off of a new 00,01,02 CL for a stick shift...unless you really like shifting all the time, i still dont see the trade off...Sequential SS is practical to me...You cant deny it, 6 gears is pretty fucking bad though...Shyne

I am also happy that I have on my order "MSRP - $1000" as they gave me the $1000 as part of the trade in deal. I think for getting a car just as it comes out of the blocks and one that will be limited in production -- getting MSRP will prove to be at worst a good deal, and if the 6MT catches a lot of folks who don't have CLS's today (one thing this board may not indicate), then MSRP is going to be lower than what dealers will be able to ask.

One of the ways Honda saves money is by reducing production costs. They limit the number of factory options, color choices, and build cars in batches of the same color to make assembly more efficient. I'm guessing the "limited production" status is due to the disruption of the assembly process caused by the changes for the six-speed. They'll probably only build so many at the same time once a quarter which will limit supply. But as someone else said, other than the enthusiasts on this board, after the initial novelty wears off I don't think a lot people will be beating down the doors for them. The IS folks were screaming for a manual and after initial demand was filled less than 10% of the cars sold are manuals and they're starting to accumulate on dealers lots.

As for price, I doubt that Acura would reduce the price as someone looking at a $30K car isn't going to be influenced by saving a $1K on the six-speed. I bet it's a no cost option like the Jaguar X-Type 3.0. Acura will never recoup its development costs for the six-speed - IMHO it's just a way to draw attention to a car that wasn't selling very well. Let’s face it – other than the six-speed the changes to the car are all purely cosmetic (OnStar is a yawn you can get it on a Malibu). The free press they'll get from the car rags will go further toward justifying the decision than what they collect from consumers.

Well, did some research through my archives and found this.
In 1995 the Legend Coupe 6-Speed was the SAME price as the AUTO.

Can you believe it cost 43,200-dollars back then ???
Sure makes 32,000 for a CL-S w/NAV seem CHEEP now doesn’t it ?

Do you know something or are you just being sarcastic. After all, your track record hasn't been too good lately.

I think he’s referring to the “Something wicked this way comes” and “BMW like” statements you made about the look of the 2003 CL.

I would have to agree the painted grill frame and black headlight trim doesn’t construe this look to me either.

In your defense, I’m guessing the source of your so-called “inside information” didn’t turn out to be too reliable huh?
