Sorry to dig up an old thread, but Hey can I see more output pics with the 55watt, the rain makes it look like the cutoff glares bad in that one shot, maybe from further back without water?

If you could That would be awesome!

ALSO addressing the 55watt burning off chrome issue, many of the "55watt" bulbs eating headlights issues comes from people using cheapo aftermarket bulbs with the 55watt ballasts.

If you use Philips Bulbs overdriven they produce much less heat especially versus overdriven ebay bulbs which are known to get insanely hot and often explode.

From what it looks like 55watt will do fine with Philips OEM style bulbs in the housings, just dont get the random questionable odd and cheap bulbs! You get what you payfor of course

I'd like to see more output pics though please!

DDM is the way to go, I had them replace with no questions a ballast that blew with my old 55watt FX35 projector retrofit on my mazda. They have excellent customer service, and seem to provide best quality next to OEM ballasts. Wayy better than that cheap ebay crap! Just remember, go with stock bulbs not the ones they give you.

You can only use there bulbs. Their kits require the bulbs that come with it. It replaces everything. Have to modify the housing for the aftermarket kit...

That thread might give you additional info, the differences are pretty plain and simple.

Looks great, would you mind posting a link and covering the options you chose as far as which "K" you went with and bulb type

Its a huge diff. Our OE 35 watt bulbs didn't look nearly as bright as my 55 watt and I even went a little bluer...

some of that is also new bulbs/ballests vs used ones though, which have some wear and tear on them; compare a BRAND NEW setup to your 55w setup, and see what the difference is really

Hey I want to order a 55w kit but I have noob questions first. I'm probably ordering from ddm, but what are the bulb sizes I need? I tried to search but couldn't find a specific anwser. I want to do my high and lows, so I'm assumming that I have to order two kits right? Sorry but I've never messed with headlights before Thanks

You have to seal up the hole where the stock ballast was and mount the new ballast somewhere.

D2R for low beam and 9005 for high beam. I dont suggest HIDs for high beam though. But yes, you'll need two separate kits.

Thank you for the reply. Why not hids for high beam? You think I should leave them stock??

HID bulbs need to heat up to get to the proper illumination. If you cycle them on and off quickly (the way most people use high beams), the bulb and ballast can fail sooner. Theres a reason OEMs dont use HIDs for high beams (unless of course the car is equipped with bixenons).

10k is TOO blue. How you'll be able to see is beyond me but I guess if youre trying to look cool because your headlights are blue, you win... lol.

know, i just wanted to be a little different, but with 55w it is supposed to wash out the blue that the 35w has(which is way too much), plus 55w is really bright, so hopefully no vision will be lost, at least that was my theory...haha

The 55w are a lot brighter! i'm really glad I went with them on mine. Even int the 8K they are so damn bright. I keep forgeting to get some night shots. the cutoff is great!
