4th vs 5th
i heard from someone that you reach higher speed and faster acceleration while in d4 as opposed to d5 for the 5AT. I've drove in gears, and it seems like d4 is quicker, but i'm not sure if its just me thinking that because of what my friend told me.
Also when in d4 does it shift at the same speeds as the d5 like it says in the owner manual without the 5th gear, or is it different??

4th is quicker than 5th. I use 4th when racing (but it rarely gets up to those speeds) and 5th to save gas.

To answer, I'm not sure, but it's a good question.

My 1-2 shift is different if I use D5 over D4. I think when it shifts to 2nd, the converter locks up right away. I dont like how it feels so I drive it in D4. When I get to freeway speeds I click it in D5 and pull it back down manually once I slow again. This is an old GM habit. You had to drive them like this or they'd blow!

no matter if you keep it in D4 or D5 the car is still going through the first 3 gears normally, so it's not going to go anyfaster. the only difference is that i will never go into 5th gear and ride 4th until redline
