:sqnteek: does that mean your car is not making 260hp? you know, more fuel = more hp... less fuel = less hp?

200 mi to a tank? what do you do? keep it in first the whole way to work!!! you do know that the "1" on the shifter doesn't mean it's the fastest gear right hehehe j/k
do you do a lot of stop and go driving? is your's a stick or auto? mines is a stick and i'm getting about 25mpg.
i noticed that if i go around 100 and keep it like that i can literally watch the fuel needle moving down lol, that happened in my integra, a couple times actually, out in the desert i was going about 135 for about a mile or two and the damn gas needle dropped like heck!

I have only been getting 21 avg highway and 15 avg. city (queens county/nyc). Someone posted a possibility that I wanted to ask about....leaving the climate control on "Full Auto" with the A/C "on" can lower your MPG that much ??? really hope this gets better, espec. with premium climbing to $1.89 right now

what i never understood about our cars is why does the auto feature turn off if you turn off the ac. the auto feature should still remain turned on even if the ac is turned off.
the auto feature should only be linked to the heater feature to either heat the car, and if the ac is off, it should simply just turn on the fan to circulate the air and bring in air from the outside through the vents.
kinda strange if you ask me

Turn off the "full auto"! Your A/C is on all the time. That compressor sucks down 10 to 15 horsepower. Your car will accellerate quicker. Also, because a/c systems are pressurized, all that they can do is eventually leak. You should run your a/c in the winter-occassionally- to keep the seals libricated. But not all the time! I was concerned about the crappy mileage my CL-S six speed was getting, until I pushed the left button under the display panel to get "a/c off." Use full auto only when you need it. Also, full auto WILL engage if you select to defrost the front windshield. You will need to turn it off manually, again, left button. 3,000 miles on mine, 22 city-chicago suburbs, 25.2 highway, lots of stops and starts for tolls and traffic, but 80 mph most of the way for 400 miles, used cruise about 50% of the time.

This forum kicks every other forum's ass !!! Ok, ok, slyraskal listen you can just turn the A/C off and still have the climate control run at "full auto" ...however this is meant for the cold weather months. The system will automatically run the heater & fan to maintain the temperature you select with the temp. dial.

i have only seen my car doing over 300 Miles per tank once in 2 and half years, that was the 2nd day after my warning light on.
Normally get 260 per tank 85% freeway.. local?? 230-240
How the fuck do ppl get 350+?????

Here is another quick way to do it: Fill up your tank before a road trip and zero your trip meter. Then when your gas gauge gets to the exact 1/2 mark your trip meter should be around 200 miles. You have used seven gallons netting 28 mpg.

"Program your ECU:" Start your car out real slow (no load less than 2k rpm) for the first ~5 mins to get her to warm up. Then when the car reaches normal operating temp, you are ready to put load (2k rpm+). It also helps to have these driving habits for best fuel consumption: braking early before a stop, accelerating smoothly, etc. Even in LA bumper to bumper traffic, this can be done.
This programming will last the entire day.

And the A/C has read "FULL AUTO" since the first night I took it home. Have hit over 500 miles on a couple of occasions.

Thanks. Good mileage. Curious. How did you break in your car? How many miles on the odo when you took delivery?

Didn't do anything special - wouldn't even consider what I do as anything related to breaking in the car. Dealer where I purchased was about 80-90 miles away, and all but about 5 miles of it was freeway, so I guess you could say that my break in was to drive at legal limit which did not include typical stop-n-go traffic. I know this probably won't sit well in here, but avoiding wide open acceleration during the early days of ownership and knowing that the little old lady in the Ford Pinto next to you at the traffic light isn't trying to beat you across the intersection goes a long way in seeing mileage per tankful readings that will extend into the upper 400+ miles - along with the corresponding mileage. I normally get over 28 mpg out of my '98 M3 and have sometimes touched 30 ... from what I see in here people'd be hard pressed to get 175 miles out of a tankful of gas. Guess it all comes down to being comfortable in the knowledge of what you have under the hood, and not having to prove it each/every time your on the street. Car had 50 miles at delivery - and I'd guess 10 or so were due to a dealer exchange a few months before I bought it. My mileage may not be representative, since I don't tend to do more city driving than necessary, but trips to the store etc are included in my figures.
