can you explain what the 3.5 is? is that upgrading the 3.2 l engine? if so, how much in gains have you seen?

I'm suprised the guy shut it down in 2nd gear. 2nd gear in the Z is the strongest gear in the car which should have given a good race. Good kill BTW

Good kill.

Mattg, actually, an even playing field would be a built VQ vs. the 3.5 hybrid.

yeah, and the cl-s would have to be rear wheel drive, and the cars would have to be released the same year for technology sake and...

the vq and the j series are both great engines. this just happens to be an acura forum, so j35a2 > *.

Relax bro, I've been a respectful guest here, and I'd say overall I'm pretty objective. Don't take it so personal. But it's pretty clear that a built and tuned engine has a distinct advantage over a factory setup. Ironically, I admire the person who's gone and gotten a built setup more though; takes courage, $$$, and in TypeR's case, creativity (as he was among the first to do it).

Well what I'm curious about is the difference between and undersquare engine vs. oversquare (the 3.5 Acura mod is an undersquare, the Nissan is oversquare). Oversquare is bigger bore than stroke, undersquare is longer stroke than bore.

I actually think that the Acura would be faster, as in stock form, Nissan engines don't make as much power in the top-end and instead shoot for lower to mid-range torque. I'm assuming that the 3.5 block maintains the Honda tradition of high-end power, but adds the low-end torque that Nissans tend to do better with.

So in the end what you have is an engine that makes its power all the way up to its higher redline, but makes torque down low as well... Admittedly, I'm just guessing though...

how do you like your altima? i traded in my 02' altima 3.5se 5spd for my 03' cl-s 6spd/navi. i had the stillen intake/exhaust on it. it was a torque monster. i pulled my twin engine sea-doo boat with it (1750 lbs 14.5ft ). u-haul makes two hitches for that car, 2000 lbs-3500lbs. it pulled like a truck....
front wheel drive musclecar!
anyways i agree with you on the acura vs. nissan power band.
i felt the cl-s was slower then the altima right away,
until i redlined the cl-s, but i still couldn't tell. i had three people in the cl-s. my wife said it felt like the cl-s pulled harder but she was in the back seat. the nissan v-6 kinda runs outa steam by the time it reaches 6000 rpm. the acura seems to pull hard all the way to rev-limiter.
if any car ever needed limited slip it's the altima!
it's twice as hard to launch as the cl-s 6spd.
the torque steer is absolutely scary even in third gear.
i ran a g35c auto three lights in a row and got broke off two times just because i sat n spun. i finally had a good launch and was bumper to bumper with him til 70mph and then started to inch my way up on him shut down at 85mph. if i didn't have so many issues with altima i would have held on to it longer. but i had the first year out and you know how that can be.
my drive-by-wire system had bugs.... it would die then kick in hard making a bucking motion... nissan wouldn't take care of it because they coudn't pick it up on there analyzer so to them it didn't have a problem. anyways there were more issues but it was probably just my luck. good luck it's a sweet looking car

03' cl-s 6spdw/navi taffeta white w/chrome fact 17's (drop in K&N)
03' tl-s pearl white/factory spoiler (wifes car)

What are you running in the 1/4 now? I see your sig has "looking for 12's"... I'm actually looking for 11's now, hope to hit that soon with downpipes.
