30k Service, OBX Header install at PAA

Well, I got my 30k service, OBX headers, and camber kit installed at PAA on July 3rd. Dropped off the car in the morning and picked it up in the evening. PAA was nice enough to give me a loaner, so my wife and I hit all of the malls and stores in the area to kill the time. Luckily we did not spend that much money.

As for the OBX headers... damn.... they make the car sound even meaner then it did before. The exhaust note is deeper and you can hear the intake sucking in air (more pronounced then pre-headers).... I love it. I must say though, I was expecting more of a difference with the headers. Everything I read made it seem like you would feel a huge difference with headers... and I just don't see it. I figured after VTEC range the car would pull very hard... but it doesn't seem much harder then before. Strange. Maybe once i pull the Acura headers out of the trunk I'll lose some weight and feel it more.

Anyway, a big thank you to PAA. They are really a class act down there... and all of my services and work will be done there and only there. It's a little out of the way.. but well worth it. Thanks to Pete, Wayne and Jens for taking care of the car and us!!

Cool.. I remember your post, so hopefully it'll get faster

Nashua - Nope.. no resonance, thankfully.

I do have a baseline 1/8 mile time from E-town.. so I'll have to get back there to see the improvements on paper

Yeah.. mine took a few days of turning it off and on .. driving a few miles in b/w .. before I really noticed it...

then, once it's a nice cool night.. gun it outta the hole and you'll see what the mods did for you.

Congrats on the headers Juniorbean. Best of luck with them.

I can't wait to head on over to PAA for some Comptech goodies. Hopefully this month or August at the latest.

Something that may explain the strange increase in power over time thing. Acuras in fact many cars today have adaptive ECU's running the engine .Since installing headers is a fairly big change to the overall running characteristics of the car it may take a bit for the car to adapt to the headers.Adaptive ECU's are neat stuff they learn on the fly about the car and also about your driving habits .Obviously the minute the car has new stuff attached to it you are going to go and try it out so suddenly the car is seeing a different driver and some different stuff under hood .In short order it begins to alter the way the car runs but it may take a bit of time to adjust things .
Glad we could be of service Junior Bean .
Thanks again ,Jens

How much do headers decrease MPG? I only get like 19MPG with an intake, and i do like 99% city driving?

So is it true that if you reset the ECU it will adapt faster?

Thanks for the replies all!! Jens, I was thinking about the adaptive ECU even before you replied. That seemed to be the only thing that made sense, and your post confirmed it.

danny - I honestly don't think that's the case entirely. It may help a little bit... but think about it... if you reset the battery, it wipes out all of the learning the ECU did and it now has to relearn it. If you do not disconnect the battery and install a new mod it still has to relearn the gains of the new part. I think the ECU learns at a certain pace and it doesn't matter if the memory is clean or not, it still learns at that pace. Then again.. I could be wrong

I think the car's smoothness hides the feeling of extra power well, but it's there. Ferizzo's car is pretty fast now with his.
