30,000 mile check up?

i am up for my 30,000 mile check up. i have a 2003 cl type-s . my dealership wants to charge me about $550 for all the work . is it worth getting it done at the dealership or somewhere else for cheaper, and also does that sound about right $550? if anyone can help me w/ this i'd really appreciate it! money is tight these days if you know what i mean...

Not that this answers your question, but I have always dreaded paying all at once for the service call, like a 30K checkup. The dealer does a lot for that money, or at least they should, but I think the big things they do is to replace the coolant and do a tranny service. I don't think they replace brake fluid at 30K. Not sure what else there is to do except rotating the tires and check a bunch of stuff. What I have done with my '02CL is to piece-meal my dutiful maintence items. On one service appointment I will do the oil change and have a tranny service done (although now that I have a newly replaced tranny, I don't need to do that), then on another I will change the oil and have the brake fluid changed, and on another, do the oil and have the coolant flushed. I usually get the service coupons in the mail to do each of these at a discount. Of course, somewhere in there I will have the tires rotated (or re-balanced) and a few other small things. I just don't have $550 all at once, so I get all of the major service done in pieces. As far as choosing a dealer or an independent, for me, the dealer always has a record of what they've done so I don't need to argue if I have issues or a larger problem.

Coolant is good for 3 years or 45,000 miles!!! Need to change your air filter and your cabin filter at 30,000 miles . You can save lots of bucks by doing these services by yourself and buying the filters on the Net. My dealer charges 45 for the air filter and about 40 for the 2 cabin filter. The original acura air filter is less than 20 on the net at Sunnyside Acura. You can also get the cabin filter at Advance Auto Parts cheaper. Same make as Acura's for 1/2 the price. There are good instructions on changing the cabin filter on this site. Search!!!

Here's the details of what most dealers will do for the maintenance. This stuff is in the owners manual and on acura's owners link website. http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com

Here's a PDF with the maintenance schedule.

http://john-perry.com/acurazine/docu...aintenance.pdf

Costs are another thing that vary from dealer to dealer. I got quoted $150 for an oil change and tire rotation (7500,15K, 22.5k service), and got quoted $500 for the 30K service. I'm doing my oil and maintenance myself now, but I did have the dealer do some maintence when I had the car in for warrenty work before.

For 240, I'd probably let 'em do it... I'm cheap, but I do value my time, so for that price I'd avoid the hassle of doing the work myself.

The only hesitation I have is that I don't know anything about Cush Acura of Escondido. I got 3 quotes from the 3 dealers nearest me.

Hoehn (Carlsbad): $395 + tax
Cush (Escondido): $240 + tax
Cush (SD - Kearny Mesa): $250 + tax

A bit interesting to see the price difference. I just dont wanna go to some idjit dealer who jacks up the car during service.

P.S. Side note Hoehn now charges $10 for loaner car service.

No problem...

Might want to start a "TX Acura Dealership" thread asking what out TX members think of the dealers down there...

Doing a seach for the dealers names here might turn up some threads too..

Ooops. I've moved from Texas to San Diego, Cali. I've done a search but nothing really came up. This was as close as I could get. Thanks for your input.
