3 difference of 2002 cls side mirrors

i went to seattle interanation auto show last saturday and i saw a brand new 2002 cls there.i noticed that the side mirrors are totally different design.and it is better than my 2001 cls'...first the shape is different and second they are all body color.(no more black and body colors..):o and thrid that drivers me crazy is that the side mirrors are blue tinted that is what i always want..that will reduce the headlight glare from the cars behind u at night. wonder if the mirrors would fit on my 2001 cls' :P

u can compare if your cls is blue tinted to your camry by looking it to the mirrors.that should be very easy to identify

i have no problem with glare at night from other drivers...it's my rearview mirror that makes the difference...i think it's kinda funny when people in SUV's tail me, hoping they'll distract and intimidate me.

I read once a tip on seting up your rear side left mirror.....

The idea is horizontally clock-wise tilt the driver side rear side mirror so it wont blind you at night and you can see better the blind spots...

I tried once and I found out it's a bit annoying te get used to....
So, I reverted to my old settings.

Why not just get your mirrors tinted with some blue window tint?

The '02 TL-S' have this too, so it only makes sense that the '02 CL-S' do too. This was one of the changes we knew were coming....

How are not able to already tell the mirrors have a blue tint?? That's the first thing I noticed about the car. It was kind of annoying at first, I'm still debating whether or not I like them. You especially notice them at night when you're driving... the headlight's of the cars behind you look like they all have HID's. :P

if you don't like glare why don't you just get your windows tinted....cheaper than getting new mirrors. Acura is also pretty damn slow on this. My friend's 1990 Q45 has the blue-tinted mirrors.
The 02 CL's probably have the auto-down passeneger side mirror when you put it in reverse, just like my TL.

I hope so, as my 2001 CL-S has the auto-down passenger side mirror when you put it in reverse feature.

Actually, to avoid blind spots from your side mirrors, they should both be set so that the rear quarter panel IS NOT visible unless you either: a)move your head to the center of the car for the passenger side or b) place your head against the drivers window for the driver's side.
By setting mirrors this way, drivers will have more complete coverage, less blind spots and "double coverage". Like everything else, it takes a while to get used to.

You are the first person to agree with me on this. When I attended Skip Barber Performance Driving School they teach you to adjust your mirrors to avoid blind spots. I notice that the CL-S mirrors do not adjust far enough out to the side. Some smartasses told me to turn my head farther. If you adjust your mirros like that you can spot things in your blind spot that you would never have noticed before.

One of the members has his CLS sitting at the shop for a tranny checkup (just in case) and they are installing 2002 TLS side mirrors on his 2001 CLS!

He said they look better and make less noise...

My mirrors are like this as well. They have been since I started driving my first car. I always tell people how much better and safer it is to set the mirrors in this way, but no one seems to listen.

can someone explain this in more detail...i would like to try this out

where is the rear quarter panel? does this require you to move the mirror from out side the car or just using the mirror controls inside the car?

thanks

I posted that original message, and to elaborate more on it the article (I can't remember where it came from...bitch getting old :'( ) drivers are advised that when setting the outside rearview mirrors you should do as follows:
DRIVERS SIDE: While in normal driving position, move your head so that it is touching the window. Adjust mirror so that the rear left corner of car is visible in mirror. When you move your head back to your normal position, the drivers' blind spot is eliminated.
PASSENGER SIDE: While in normal driving position, move your head toward the center of car (armrest) and adjust mirror so that the right rear corner of car is visible.

I am glad to see that some of you out there agree on this. So many people drive around and everytime they look in the mirrors, a quarter of what they see is their own car. I think we should already know that it is there.

Why don't you grab a friend, and have him walk past your car, and when he's in your blind spot, figure out how to adjust your mirrors so you see him?

It should be obvious what he's doing when you do that.
(Although perhaps he should hold his hands out to his side so he's wider)

That's pretty cool...I'll try it tomorrow.

I wonder how much less noise the '02 mirrors cause compared to the '01's? Are they that noisy to begin with, or was that guy just going to try telling his friends that he got a '02 when all he really had was a hacked '01. :P

Maybe the '01 mirrors are causing the tranny problems!! Too much turbulence and drag...too hard on the drivetrain!! :P :P
