Feel better. Once the kids get it it's just a matter of time. It's the only thing my kids are good at sharing.

You stole my idea and made it unoriginal!

I was totally going to do this with my exhaust. I've been looking at various setups and really liked the vacuum actuated ones that are similar to what the ZR1 Vettes use and still might but first I have to get these other exhaust parts (PCD's and long tube j-pipe) installed so this Big Boy can breath! Lol

Love it dude, great work and you have officially made me j-e-l-l-y.

I was looking at the vacuum operated ones. Ill probably end up with them in the future. Right now im using a spare IMRC motor to operate both. It works great. Both are on the stock mufflers with the one with the valve bypassing the internal baffling. I also figured out why a RPM switch doesnt operate the IMRC properly. The IMRC module under the dash reverses polarity to close it. Inside the IMRC there is a small spring and wheel that locks it open, its a motor and not a solenoid so its just a small momentary voltage to open and close.

Its was more of a test to see if it could be done. I may try to make my own mufflers in a similar design, just a little less internal baffling to make the normal exhaust note a little louder

Not completely complete, still some minor details (paint part of the rear diffuser a different color) and grille to finish and some final buffing but here are some of it in the wild

Love it! That rear end is so unique. Do the exhaust tips rub the bumper? They look tight in there.

It's a little more subtle than I was expecting it to be from the pics when you first started but damn Kris it came out beautifully!

Might I add for starters that it's looking really, really good.

But just out of curiosity, what purpose did you have in installing a butterfly into the inside of the exhaust tip? It almost looks like a single exit muffler with dual tips welded on and a butterfly on one tip. I had originally though about doing a butterfly, but I had considered doing a chambered style piping build. I.E. before the muffler, all piping would be, say 2.5" and then right before the muffler, there would be a section what was 3.5" or something for only a foot with a 2.5 inside of it that would have a butterfly at the front to muffle the sound if closed. Never really got into the mechanics of it once I went single exit, but still an idea.

tl;dr: why butterfly??

It's like the corvette baffled exhaust. At a certain rpm it is a straight pipe.

To help those who dont understand what the flap valve does, here's Kris' car when running at WOT during a launch:

There are 2 openings on the muffler. One is the stock opening, that one still utilizes the stock muffler chambers to muffle sounds. The 2nd one is in the end (these are 3 chamber mufflers)chamber which is used for sound cancellation only on the stock muffler. With the 2nd tip attached to that chamber and the butterfly valve on it when open it essentially bypasses all the internal sound baffling making it a straight thru muffler with little to no sound cancellation. Right now its set to open when the 2nd stage intake manifold valve opens (around 4k rpm)

I have the same impression, feel like it needs different/more aggressive wheels to set it off. Looks awesome though! That ass

Well i blew up the motor..

Warning, Carnage below. (though it could have been worse)

Amazingly, there was really no damage to the cyl wall. There was some really fine scratches in it, but after a few passes with the hone they were completely removed.

Then i rebuilt it

Oh, and here is a front shot.

your guess is as good as mine. Drove it to my cottage, all was fine, next AM took it for a ride up the interstate (to the closest Walmart) 25 miles worth of cruise set to 75-ish mph all was fine till i got off on the ramp then i heard the noise of what sounded like a spun bearing. Turned out i was right. Yep, it was sitting the whole time i did body work, but i occasionally started the motor and let it run for a while, and never had a noise or sound to be concerned about Freak failure.

weird. Glad it's back up and running. Speaking of which, how is it running with the beefy tires? Do you have any track days planned before winter?

Drives beautifully. I havent gotten on it yet, still giving the bearings/rings a little bit of break in. If i get a chance to get enough miles on it and there is a trackday left yea, i plan on trying yet.

Congrats on all that custom work. Defiantly the most wild 4 door tl I've seen. Good to see the passion and hard work involved in the project.
