3.2CL vs modded Jetta

Hey all...first I'd like to say that I've been pretty impressed with the posts that I've read on this board. Especially with the respect that you guys give the modded VW's and Audi's.

Secondly, this is a race story that I posted on the club18t.com VW site...I have a modded Jetta (mods in my sig) and I love catching people off guard (although I've been caught off guard too...the latest was by a Civic with a b16 swap).

No flames please, I'm not a troll - I plan to keep posting. This is just a fun story (for me anyway... ).

Here is my story...
---------------------------------
The last time I raced an Acura 3.2CL it was nose-to-nose from 55mph until we shut down at the top of 4th gear. Also, back then I didn't get a chance to see if it was a type S. And one more disclaimer - that was before I had my downpipe and N75J valve on the Jetta.

This morning I saw a 3.2CL (regular) weaving through traffic and it stopped beside me and then took off again. Taunting me! I was like, come back beyatch! So of course I followed and when we got clear in the middle and right lane she (yes she) motioned for us to go...so I took off. We hit it around 65. I down shifted into 3rd and pulled immediately. Then went to 4th and she was still on it!

When I went to shift gears again I realized that we were going quite fast. I don't want to say how fast, but those who have been foolish enough to do it know that it is way into jail territory (and around the speed rating for my stock tires). When I shut down i was far enough ahead to comfortably switch lanes in front of her. I'd guess 5-6 cars or so (pretty far ahead).

She got on my ass again a bit later to "push" me along so I took off again. But I could tell, when she realized that she wasn't gonna get close to catching or passing me, she got out of it.

Ah...good times! I give this race 4 pimps

It's a blue 2003 Jetta 1.8t with a 5 speed manual. I don't have any pics...the only exterior mods are medium tint...it looks totally stock except I took the "ta" out of the Jetta badge and installed a fantasia mickey mouse antenna tip just to keep me from taking myself too seriouosly. Don't worry - my wife bought that for me.

That is pretty cool how replacing the chip in the 1.8's can make them get nasty like that, but sucks that we can not do that at the same time.

Replacing the N75 valve will get another 2-3 psi out of the turbo too...And the downpipe without the cat makes a huge difference as well. Those are the three "must haves" for any 1.8t driver!

Stock (for me) - 15.7 @ 87
Chip + Intake - 14.9 @ 93

I took it to the track once since I added the downpipe (no cat) and N75 but my clutch threw in the towel - seriously the only run that I could get I had to take off in 1st like a normal take off and then punched it around 2500rpm, then shifted lightly into 2nd and 3rd. Got a measly 14.7 but trap speed was 97. I think it will be around 14 even when I get my new clutch.
Go fast parts:
Chip - $550
Intake - $200
Downpipe - $160
N75 valve - $70

Maintenance parts:
Upgraded axles because I crushed my inner cv joints due to wheel hop - $700ish
Motor mount bushings to cure the wheel hop - $70
New stage II clutch and 7lb flywheel - $700ish (coming soon!)

hehe...that's just becaue ALL of the Integra drivers I run into just game in from riced out civic land...and that's technically an Acura, so you see where I was coming from .

The motor mounts aren't what I would call problematic, they are just made for a smooth ride in a 180hp engine. As if the wheel hop wasn't bad enough, the motor was flexing so much that my new downpipe was scraping somewhere when I got on it in any gear. That sound was really bad. The old motor mount bushings were about as stiff as one of those foamy hand exercise things, but the new ones (aftermarket) are stiff like cue balls! The vibration is more noticeable but there's no way around it.
