Is the 2nd induction path problem common?

I was reading about some of the funny dyno curves from back in Sept. Did anyone ever find out that their cars had a messed-up actuator to switch the air induction at 3800 rpm?

Does Acura check for this problem now -- does it just "show up"?

Any thoughts?

I've only read of 4 ppl who have encountered the problem. I would guess that Acura isn't checking on it b/c the members had to show Acura the problem actuator.

It's not TOO common and probably has not been reported to Acura enough times to warrant them issuing a TSB to the dealers to check it. I checked mine and it kicked over at approximately 3800-4000 so it's working fine.

I had a broken actuator and had to explain to my dealership what the problem was. My service tech said that all they need is 5-6 incidents before a TSB is issued. So, with that in mind, how many people have had actuator failure?

Give me your stats and I'll see if I can get the info submitted to Acura via my Service Department. I'll start...

I wonder if someone (moderator) could post a separate post on this issue. My car seems ok, but it would be nice if droideka's post could be put some where it would be noticed. This seems like something that Acura should know about *and* check for (on every car)!!!

That would be me, from that HA forum. Back in August is when I dyno'd my car and found that the IMRC system wasn't working. After debating with the dealer, showing them my plots, and then also going through the test procedure myself for the system. I found that the IMRC control module was bad, the dealer ended up stating that it was the actuator. But in any account, it was fixed and was very noticeable.

BTW, the final thing I determined to help the dealer understand was by asking them to test a car on the lot. The IMRC control is not gear related, the only control (which there is no feedback of actuation) is RPM. So even in Park it will switch at 3800 revs. Once they saw this on a another car and then tested mine tehy were convinced. Took a bit though.
