Wow, that's pretty cool. That coupled with the Technosquare ECU upgrade should make a big difference on the top-end. What kind of dyno numbers does the Crawford Plenum make? I just fired off an email to them about the Altima market.

BTW, I spent an hour last night reading about ravaz's ATI Procharger install issue (which was clearly a tuner issue). Then I saw another thread where several folks noticed metal flakings in their oil after their ATI installs. Not a good sign... Not a good sign at all.

I think the dyno results were about +20 whp at redline and 12whp at peak. Pretty impressive little mod. You can definitely feel the difference in acceleration after the install...car just pulls and pulls all the way to redline. I would think the 3.5 altima could benefit from the same mod. The technosquare ECU looks good but is a bit expensive.

As for the FI that's available for the Z right now I'm letting others be the guinea pigs before I consider it . My Z is fast enough for the time being anyway.

btw, at 20, you are above 3k rpms, and it takes almost no time to get the car into vtec, so a rolling start really does show power difference
it's probably that 4:42 final drive ratio working for you there.....
too bad the 6 spds don't have a more aggressive final drive gear.
but it's hard enough to launch as it is.

i'm always comparing my wifes car (03' tl-s) with my 03' cl-s 6spd
and i have to say i'm extremely impressed with how hard her tl-s launches.

i think a G35cAUTO w/ all the boltons would put up a good fight verse a AUTO CL-S w/ the CT blower

I remember when sport compact did one of the first reviews of the new 350z last year with that same intake, it made the Z LOOSE power on the dyno cuz the E.C.U didn't know how to react to the mod. The only car that really bennefits from the AEM intake is the 3.5 altima....the stock intake is already a perfect match for the g35 and Z. Any modifications may slow the car car down, without the proper ecu and dyno tuning which many dont perform. That intake probaly slowed him down a bit.

so intakes make you lose power now? are you serious. you are increasing AIRFLOW!!! you can only gain or at least stay the same.
what about the injen intake(my friend had this)??? that has been dyno proven. also, this is a G, not a Z. very similar but the sedan, coupe, z, altima, they all respond differently to mods.
its seems like to me that you think i didnt actually beat this guy. i guess just talking about the win isnt good enough, i need a video right? then maybe you will believe me.

The problem with the G35 and the Z isn't the fact that it's an intake. There are two potential issues. First off the Z and the G35 come with what amounts to a CAI stock. It almost looks like a low-key ram-air setup. Secondly, the G35 and the Z ECUs are known for correcting for any mods you have. The injen intake you mention may do well on the initial dyno, but over time, as I said, the ECU has been known to correct out the addition.

True, the Altima ECU doens't seem to suffer this "correction" problem, but it is quite a bit detuned from the bigger horses in the stable (something Altima owners are hoping to rectify with the Technosquare ECU upgrade, which we can't get yet because the tuner company needs a stock car to tune it (Grrr...)

Yes, I believe so. This will be my first time.. Some of it depends on when my wife is going out of town; she's gonna be gone for 3 weeks and I kinda need to be around the day or two beforehand.

The G35c may have the advantage at the track due to it's RWD. It's a bit more balanced and less nose heavy, less push into turns.

Good kill. Have you tried racing a G35c MT?

Thank You Aquineas for validating my origional statment, that the AEM intake is an ineffective mod for the G35 coupe... I do believe that power3dfx beat the coupe, please dont mistake me for a skeptic. Mabey those with stock Z's and G35's will come across this thread and avoid the intake all together.

i went to the dyno this past weekend and confirmed my speculation. it was an s2k event and there were about 5 or 6 cars (s2ks) that dynoed. half with mods, the other half stock. every single one of the modded cars where down on hp compared to the stock cars. on average, about 8 to 10 hp. with the strict OBDII policing our cars, mods just arent as effective. you have to do something to the computer to realize true potential. unless you go FI. btw, here is my dyno sheet......

still an awesome dyno.

when you say the modded cars put down lower #'s do you just mean the g35's or the s2k's as well?

oh, i guess i forgot to say that i have a G35. the modded s2ks were getting about 208 to 212 and the stocks where anywhere from 219 to 225. damn impressive for a 2 liter 4. and the s2000s had a flat tq line too. only it was about 100 less than mine :P

sorry if i sounded mean, i just got a feeling that you thought my story wasnt true.

i admitted my loss before so obviously i have no problem doing it again though it hurts.
as for the ecu thing, i looked into it. I still dont think he lost power, and still believe he gained a bit. However, i think his gains were pretty much minimal as you mentioned. Sucks for the G's!
Anyways i do have a video of me beating a G but that was a sedan so it doesnt relate to this.

Dr Rick,
i remember seeing you on the clexus forums. cool that you stopped by here. miss the old gs??? i dont know what i would do without it even though i hardly drive the monster.

Wow, nice dyno on the G36C!! Your stock G still makes about 30lb more tq than my Supercharged S. I might have to pick one up later down the road.

I've raced a Z from a roll before in my S, but I know if I don't launch my car, I will get destroyed by both the Z and the G35C.

drrick,
one quick question. stock for stock, which do you think is faster. the coupe or gs4. i am pretty sure the auto gcoupe is slower than a GS. but what about your ride with six speed?

i thought that the GS was faster. i now know that its not. track times are better. different days, different cities but 14.6 at 96 vs 14.4 at 99 show it. and that was my first time ever at a track with a stick. going back wed and im sure i can get it to 14.1 or maybe even a 14 flat. the grunt of the v8 off the line gives you that impression. with equal drivers, the coupe would win 8 out of 10 times. but in the hands of us mortals, its a driver's race. and even objective things like the dyno graphs show that the power to weight ration goes to the G. the best my GS ever did on a dyno (3 times) was like 235. and it weighed a couple hundred pounds more. add that to the auto gearbox and its hard to overcome. now dont get me wrong, the Grinch was nobody's slouch. but i do think that the coupe is faster.

First two races, by end of 2nd (about
75), i am a full car ahead. Third gear ireally pull away. I mean ALOT. by end of third (110), he is 2 cars+ behind. I say plus because it was PROBABLY more, but i cant tell from where i am. All i know is third is where i usually would edge him out, and now its even stronger.
We made a total of 9 runs. 7 wins for TLS, 2 for the G coupe.
One of the race i lost because i launched like crap(got lazy) and i forgot to put in SS. He ran in SS most of the time, except for the first race.

We also did 20 mph rolls, i won by 2 cars each time by 80 mph.

Overall i am so happy and impressed. Still, i give the g coupe much props and it is very fast. Darrin thinks these G's are easy to beat, they are not. You really have to pay attention with our cars.
This sounds about right. I had a similar experience I posted on a few weeks ago. Our race was a little closer but the G still lost.
