I would say NO.
I had a hard time finding someone to mount my 235’s on my 7.5” Rims.
The first place I went to wouldn’t do it.
Toyo said 8” minimum for a 235/40

What tires are you using? Check their website for the recommended min/max size.

fucking shit.

i bought 7.5 rims cause I got a deal on them from chriskelly5 here on the board..

the MINIMUM tires i can have on my car are 245/40/18. the website im looking at (cause i want to buy the falken azenis') says that for that tire, i have to have a minimum 8" rim..

but it says the 245/45/18 can be put on a 7.5" rim..
wassup with that?

A 45 series gives you a higher sidewall so I guess that’s the difference.

they should fit, I use to have 235/40's on a 7" wheel, don't see why those wouldn't fit.

also one thing is, all tires while stated the same size are different, even from the same manufacturers just different styles.

I may go with those anyway just because the 3kgt has such a LARGE gap even after a 2" drop its just not funny.. i dont need a really thin tire to point it out anymore.

he wasn't there

but as you said, you might as well just go w/ the 45's and be on the safe side. I'm saying they'll fit, but it's better to be safe then sorry.

like i said ill probably go with the 45's cause the 40's are the minimum tires i have to have to support the car.. i dont want to risk it.

Id go with the 45. but you should be able to ge the 40s on there. But thats the largest you could put on the rims.

245/45/18s would look like crap...either go 235/40 to be on the safe side or go 8 inch rims

I dont think 45's will looks like crap.

I cant go with a 235, the 235's wont have the load capacity for my heavy ass car. I have to have a minimum of 245/40/18 for my rims. 245/45/18 would just be a little safer than the 40's

and i already bought the rims at 7.5, because i got them at wholesale price and it was too good to pass up.

The measuring width is not always the optimimum width (sometimes == yes, always == no).

225/40-18 on 7.5 is AOK

If you get 235/40-18 in an XL rated tire (Toyos for example), you will have a 95 load rating. You are still stuck with the 8" minimum requirement. However, you would only be a little bit over the requirement. IMO, if you asked the dealer or manufacturer, you might get a “pass.”

95 load rating should be plenty for a 3000gt.

Tire rack shows the 245/40-18 as the recommended tire for a 3000GT with a lower load rating of 93 (for the S-03s [they aren’t an XL tire])

The 235/45-18 will be about 2.5% oversized and you will lose a hair of torque, and gain about a third of an inch of sidewall. The load rating is even better than the 245/40-18, but you sure don't have a large selection to pick from...

The 235/40-18 will increase your effective torque. You will be within 1% of size, speed, etc...

The 245/45-18 will be about 4-5% oversized and you will lose about 4-5% of effective torque, and the tire will be a full inch taller (diameter). Are you sure they will fit?

BTW, the reason tires with taller sidewalls can fit on narrower rims -- in general -- is the very height in profile. As you lower the profile of the tire, you need to keep the rim width in a narrower range. Look at the specs on some of the 55- to 65-series tires (for SUVs, etc.) and they have some pretty BIG tires sitting on some pretty narrow rims. Example: 255/55HR18 105H on 7" rim (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...ergy+MXV4+Plus)

Go head off to a tire calculator and check your options out. If you end up getting tires that rub, that wheel investment wont seem to savvy...

My friend has 215\45\16 Falken Azenis on his 97 prelude, which we drove to Florida last month right after mounting them on the car, I had about 3000 miles of time in the car with them, and about 800 personally driving the car. Heres what I thought....

For the price (400 for all) I have to say I am VERY IMPRESSED with these tires .. the only thing I might be scared off with these tires is the treadwear.

as far as handling goes, I am used to my 03 cl with CT springs, CT sways, shocks, and 235\40\18's .. I was very impressed with the handling of a stock prelude, definetly out handles my CL when it was stock, and these tires only made it feel more confident. I've been in the car with its stock issued tires on it, and it was a tad scary at times. BTW its a fully built H22 darton sleeved block with 6puck clutch, limited slip .. etc etc. Stock tires you could barely let it out with gas and not spin. These tires took just about anything you gave em. They are so sticky its scary. He was whipping turns, body roll and all on stock suspension, and they never even squealed. Even with the stiffness in the cornering, it managed to have a VERY smooth highway ride. Keep in mind however this was in 90 degree florida weather with hot pavement and rubber. They also do pretty well in the rain but I wouldn't push em.

And the tread pattern is down right mean lookin, good choice.

Long answer....

Well, the CLS without lowering springs and low profile tires looks like a SUV with the big gaps. I don't know about your car, but slight changes in tire diameter and width make for some rub problems on "some" cars (it depends on tire brand, wheel size, etc, etc). (I know they do on the CLS.)

I personally don't get in a twist over 1/2" too-narrow rim width requirements, but that's my opinion. (This also depends on tire make; the 235/45-17 Toyo T1S, with the very thick sidewall protector, are an alignment problem when used on the stock 7" CLS wheels [not a problem for you and your 3000gt].)

Generally, if you don't mind being a bit out-of-spec, and you now have someone who says it works (with the very tires and combo you are asking about), you only need to find a dealer to install them and work with you (re: the 245/40-18 on the 7.5" rims).

In the end, the make and design of the tire have a lot to do with how a tire fits.

There's some wiggle room -- I just don't know exactly how much...

They are excellent tires, very quiet, plenty of wet traction.

I got mine for $130/piece=very reasonable tire made in Japan.
