235/45/17 versus 215/50/17 ?
I am locked in on the Sumi HTRs for new tires but am confused on the size recommendations.
Car is stock with regard to springs/shocks/wheels so rubbing isn't a concern. I am also not concerned with odometer creep.
Somebody explain the difference in these sizes in user terms.

Shorter sidewall = less flex under cornering loads
wider fotprint = better dry grip but IMO more likely to slip in wet conditions.
235 also is wide for a 7" rim but many ppl have had it with no problems i guess.

Mike, get the wider tires! I have the Sumitomo 235 45 17 and they corner better and don't spin nearly as much from a standing start as the narrower tires (215). Good choice on the Sumitomos - I like them, but get the wider size!

Where is my super sauce?
I also have the Sumitomos in 235/45-17. The 215/50-17 does not have the proper load rating for the CL-S (91) and the rollout (829 rev/mile) is slightly more (slightly smaller tire). The load rating on the 235/45-17 is 93 and the rollout is 823 rev/mile on a 8.0" wheel. The stock tires have a 93 load rating and rollout is 819 rev/mile.
I'd agree these are minor issues, but I wanted to keep my tires as close to spec as possible.
FWIW, I just checked my odometer the other day and it was dead on correct when checking by mileage markers.
I've used these tires in wet and dry and must say they're as great as the reviews say: no squealing, no slipping, and much improved steering response. Nice and quiet too.
