You can use either a 225/45-18 (it is a bit taller than the stock 215/50-17 MXM4), but in "most" tires (not XL rated) they will support a 91-load rating.
(93 XL load rating is stock/Acura rating -- and the higher the rating, the *better*.)
You can also use a 225/40-18; however, the 225/40-18 max-performance/high-performance tires listed on TireRack will only have an 88-load rating; in my opinion, this is too low. However, Toyo makes a 225/40-18 T1S Proxy (with a load rating of 92 XL load rating and its a killer tire) and the Nitto 555 (in the same size) has a load rating of 92 too!.
The speedo error is smallest with a 235/40-18; it may be a bit wide depending on your 18 width and wheel offset.
If you want a tire from TireRack (Michelin Pilot Sport, S-03, S-02, Kumho, Pirelli, etc), get the 225/45-18. The 225/40-18s will only have a load rating of 88 (with few exceptions)
If you are going to get a Toyo T1S Proxy or Nitto 555 in a 225 profile(18 wheel), get the 225/40-18 with the 92 rating! The 225/40-18 will fit a bit better.
IMO 225/40-18 and/or 225/45-18 will make the car look like an SUV without lowering.
