200k on One Transmission!

Well, I finally broke the 200k mile barrier in my CL (200,562 right now). It took me longer than expected because I bought a new house that is alot closer to work than my other house is. Made it there on one auto tranny though.
I have had a few other small problems with my CL but, almost no problems that I haven't caused in some way or another.
I have to admit that the CLS has been one of the best cars that i have ever owned and i still enjoy driving it everyday.

OP, are you the original owner?? if you bought yours in 2005 when you joined Azine, you may not have realized if a 2nd tranny had indeed been put in by first owner...i've seen another example where person didnt realize they were running on a rebuilt tranny the whole time...

anyways, 200,000+ is awesome!! giving me some hope for my 2nd tranny!! my car did 90,000 on its first, ill take that!

i personally know the previous owner and the cars history. i bought it in 04 with around 45-50k miles. plus the dealer noted it during the prebuy inspection.

So if you guys are on your original transmission (which I doubt) then you would have a oil jet... When I went to open road acura they had no record that I had my transmission replaced the first time at Park ave acura and when I called corperate they had no record that my tranny was even replaced once.. So Acura will not tell you if your tranny was replaced they dont want people knowing how many tranny's went bad and how many times..
If the tranny has blue painted bolts then it is NOT the original tranny.
If the tranny does not have the oil jet then it is NOT the original tranny.

Mine has had the oil jet kit installed. I went to Acura and had them pull the service records and they showed the oil jet kit being one of the maintenance things done to the car. Mine is sitting at just over 92K, so we'll see what happens.

Then the person that owned the car b4 u did got the service done at that dlr.
If the service was done at any other DLR they would not be able to pull that up. Open road acura could not pull up all the stuff i got done at PARK AVE ACURA and vise versa!~

While I agree with this statement, there are some cars out there with the original trans and no oil jet kit, it all depends who they have service the car and if they paid attention to the letter or not.

the only way to know if your trans is original or no is to see if the VIN plate is attached with your VIN on it. If not, it's not original.

Congrats! You were one of the lucky ones

What were your tranny fluid drain intervals?

Did you do a 1x drain and fill each time.....or 2x?.....or 3x?

Honda ATF Z-1 or other?

well, i went a different route. after the 105k service, i never changed the fluid again. i check the fluid about once a month. if it's low, i add a little lucas transmission fix. that's pretty much it though. i think there is some magical mud in there holding it together.

I can't belive that the tranny would make it to 100K..
I babied my last tranny changed the fluid every 15K and still dies after 68K..
And if someone did not get the oiljet and r still on there original tranny thats like a miricle these trannies tarnished honda rep for reliability!
There is even a website for failing honda odyssey's transmissions..

yes there is an oiljet, no, there are NO blue bolts and the VIN matches.

Is it so hard to believe that even 1 transmission out of thousands could ever make it to 200k?

While I'm nowhere near 200k miles on a single trans but I have owned 2 CL's and neither tranny has failed I was the original owner of an 01 that was in a wreck and I sold it to a friend who repaired it and it has over 95k still on the original tranny and I'm at 80K on the original tranny in my 03. I realize that overall a lot of people had problems with their tranny's not all are bad. By the way I heard that changing your tranny fluid too frequent isn't good for it.

Congrats o1s for 200K+ and still going.

You said the failure of this last transmission was a crimped oil line in your dead transmission thread.

My transmission has 115k on it and is fine (fingers crossed)

Aren't you tired of whining about transmissions yet? I am tired of reading your posts complaining about it.

u would be bitching too if you paid 30k for a luxery car when you where 20 and then did all the service by the book and had to replace the transmission every 3 years!! Wouldn't u?? The reason I bought this car is cuz I thought it was gonna be reliable and when there is a thread about a transmission I will post cuz I garentee I owned this car and have more expirence then anyone else here!! I didn't by this pos used for less then 10k or got it from mommy and daddy like some of u I paid 30k and then dishing out more and more money on this transmission..so if if someone post anything about the transmission I will bitch and maybee I will help one person and then my bitching will be worth it!!

Well good thing I saw this thread, since I know that my tranny isn't the original. I'm at about 76k right now.

Kinda glad I bought that warranty from the dealer. I kinda hope if I do have to replace the tranny, that it happens before the warranty is up

Do you know the year your transmission was replaced? There is a rumor going around that replacements after 2005 Feb are improved in reliability.

I don't know, really. I bought it this time last year, and it had about 70k miles on it. So you'd have to figure that most likely the last driver had it replaced > maybe 40k miles or so.

Any way to know for sure? Or am I going to have to pay for a history report?

try calling acura 800 number and inquire by giving them your vin, and ask about the date, they have to tell you

You have whined in 20 different threads at length and I understand you are frustrated but THE POINT of THIS thread is a transmission that lasted 200k, you say you don't believe the transmission can go 100k so I said mine has more than 100k.

I understand you are frustrated and feel your pain, my 97 3.0 CL which I bought new had it's transmission die at 32k but give it a rest, the op posted a thread about longevity, enough IN THIS THREAD about your bad experience. (just my opinion btw)

StonedCL, in your case it was most likely bad install by bad mechanic, its very bad, but on the other hand 2005 Feb+ transmissions, when installed right, might be OK

I don't know what is more retarded

1. person who abbreviates dlr for dealer

or

2. person complaining about another person abbreviating the word dealer...

my original trans went 71K and my second one is at 14K and is all messed up. getting the dealer to do anything about it is a pita......
