2004 Open Track Challenge - 32 y/o 911 takes 1st overall in touring

It's a long read, so if you're not into road racing (and Porsches) hit the back button now

Summary: 1972 Porsche 911 beat out Vipers, Vettes and 430hp Evos for the overall win in the touring division. Division standings are here:

http://www.opentrackchallenge.com/re...Standings.html

Full write up by the owner and co-driver of the 1972 911 (aka Black Beauty) is here:

If you want to learn more about the OTC, here's the website:

I don't know if it's fair to really classify that car as a 72

kudos to him though

wow kick ass. All suspension work. No major engine work aside from a chip that allows for better exhaust flow or something. Mad driving skillz.

of course but regardless 93 power output v. newer cars like vipers/vettes/evos etc., is great driving.

I've been researching streetable road course platforms (rwd), and it's articles like this that make me lean towards a 911.

I'll be looking to add a "summer only" car to my stable within the next year, and I've been looking at the older 911s and the C5 vettes (hoping the C6 will compress c5 prices lower then they are already).

The thing with the 911s is that you're not pushing that much weight (2200lbs or so for a 72), so you don't need as much hp as a 3200lb C5 vette to go fast.

ah someone else who gets it I'd love to get a

drop a k20 or f22 w/ turbo. Sitting golden

good luck! lightweight setup I much prefer mid/rear mounted setup because of the weight xfer issues involved in road racing. Get a nice suspension, adjust camber etc., and yer golden!

Zapata, it funny you mention the K20 Elise kit. If you look at the webpage for prototype racing here:

http://www.prototyperacing.com/k20kit.htm

There is a picture of a elise passing a 911 with the caption of "Walking away from a Porsche at 130 mph." What 911 do you think that is ??

It's Black Beauty, the 1972 911 that participated in the OTC that I linked to above

I think that Jack Olsen posted something about the photo, but It's late, and I don't feel like searching thru the PelicanParts 911 posts to find the "story" on that pic.

Lightweight is the way to go It'll be interesting to see what used Elises go for on the used car market in a few years.
